Ice Spice is signed to Lucian Grange's son. That's a level of push and industry support that is unparalleled. His dad runs most of the music industry.

She didn't just blow up haphazardly lol

It's completely unrealistic to expect new bytches to be in Dunkin commercials with Ben Affleck and cheesing it up at the Super Bowl with Taylor and Blake Lively off some viral songs on Tiktok. She was basically teleported to A-list from obscurity within a year
Elliott Grainge is not exactly batting 1000 with his signings. Most of the artists he’s signed either failed or are complete unknowns.

Female rappers need to get back on some gangsta shyt...

That's why I liked about Kim and Foxy.

They weren't one dimensional.

They didn't make songs about how to just take money from a man.

Foxy had songs about sticking up nikkas and Kim was talkin about Flippin bricks and pulling rip jobs with Junior Mafia.

Which genre will overtake rap/hip-hop? Country music? Latin music? Roots/Afrobeats/dancehall/world music? And with the exception of Taylor Swift, no pop star is selling albums and selling shows with sellout crowds.

We’re in a transition period, we just haven’t found the new generation of star rappers yet, the 2020s was supposed to belong to the trio of Xxxtentacion/pop smoke/juice wrld, unfortunately they were all dead before the Covid-19 shutdown of march 2020. We will never know what they would do and how well they would do in this decade.

The trap sound and 808 & heartbreak drums are getting stale as well, there are no innovative/fresh/groundbreaking/brand new sounds, images and feels in this new decade so far.
Idk breh but the mumble era killed it. As you mentioned there are no new superstars. We need new blood. Drake has been around forever now

Travis Scott was the only rap album in the worldwide top 10. And if I change that to USA Travis was number 7 and Metro boomin album was number 10. It just got stale like superhero movies. Perhaps people are ready for something new.

And yes Latin music has exploded while rap has been declining. You have artists in that genre setting tour records. Bad Bunny is just as big as Taylor Swift if not bigger.

There’s like ten
With no hate whatsoever was there ever a female rap “wave” in the first place?

Female rappers are just rappers and there hasn’t been enough of them poppin at the same time to really call it a wave. 2 or perhaps 3 at max are poppin at even given time.
what? There are so many female rappers right now.

I’m convinced y’all really don’t go outside or have black wives 🤣🤣🤣

There hasn’t been any consistency since Nicki fell off. Some chick will be the one for a year then we see another one. People barely respect the girls that are actually dropping hits.

It’s the same for the males.

That’s why it’s been like 15 years and we still have the same big three.

Rap is pretty trash overall now.

I agree :yeshrug: Nobody has really taken the torch and ran with it. People are still naming Cole, Kendrick, and Drake like they aren’t the old guys now. Now I took an honest listen to XXXtentacion not long after his death and I really believe he could’ve had the torch for a minute. Dude was crazy and it would be hard for me to listen to a lot of his music, but he has some gems that I find myself going back to. People named Pop Smoke and Juice Wrld… I didn’t care too much for them so I dunno. It seems like artists now just drop songs and people fukk with them or they don’t. Who are the consistent stars in hiphop now not named Cole, Kendrick, or Drake?
