I am Dominican and yes of visibly Afro descent, i have traveled to many Latin american countries and have really never experienced the same type of racial hate i have from whites here....

i think your argument of not seeing anyone of Afro descent being "visible" or in the forefront can be said for any population, EVERYWHERE in the world where they has been "white" and "non-white" people there has existed some form of racial discrimination.

KEEP IN MIND THOUGH , am not saying this to justify racial discrimination in Latin america AT ALL but I think a lot people here don't fully understand that the type of racial divide that exist here in America between whites and non whites is completely different than what happens in Latin american countries , here in Ameirca its alot more sytematic , diliberate and ingrained into the culutre, and of course its going to seem worse in latin ameirca because of the economic situation of many of those countries

Thanks for the response, and i'm very interested in the culture of Latin America, especially those of Afro-Descent. But I have to disagree to a certain things, with America, everyone knows there are Black people in this country, regardless of what White folks do. You have countries, where literally people don't know Black people exist, till they see their Soccer team. For a person who is not of Latin America background, you would think only Andy Garcia, and J-LO exist from what we get from the Latin media, both in America and in Latin America.

From an outsider, I have to say that the brand off cism in Latin America, while not as upfront, is more dangerous, and harmful to people of color, especially those of African descent. Because even with all the problems in this country. Blacks have always been able to succeed and create something for themselves and force those in control to deal with them, because they understand what they are dealing with.

'street culture' in cali is closely tied to 'prison culture'. and yeah, there's not much reconciliation and coming together coming from 'prison culture'

I'm from socal born and raised.

in the early 90s we had the numbers over them and it was generally peaceful. you had some bullying but also they were welcomed into the neighborhood just like ricans in nyc (they were there at the start of hiphop) by the late 90s and early 00s it just shifted dramatically. places that were 75/25 became 30/70 in a decade. I watched it all go down with my own eyes.

It starts off a bit like the Jews in Israel. they move in lay low while slowly increasing their numbers. once they have enough they hire ONLY each other and give housing preferably to themselves. I remember seeing ads 'Spanish friendly' pretty much meant you were going into a complex with majority Hispanics and the manager was going to trash your app.

Racism starts to kick in when the number tilt. you start hearing mayate more often, you start hearing about racist brothers and fathers when dating. usually the mentality is brought from their parent from Mexico as Latin America has issues. second gen that grow up around blacks are almost never racist but its the ones that came after the shift in numbers that tend to have extreme tribalism. I've dated loads and I means LOADS of latinas and every single one has told me that their previous ex has asked if they dated a black man or if one good looking one passes them by they grip them tighter and make a sure to check them. there's a lot of machismo in the culture and 6'2 tyrone is subconscious threat. when is the last time you asked a black woman if she's dated latino ? Black peoples biggest threat are black people. its like putting a pack of alphas in one cage. its a disaster. one of the reasons we can never have a strong structured criminal organization (name one as organized as the mexican mafia or AB present day not pastance ill wait)

On a different note. socal has seen whites and blacks come closer. since blacks can't get jobs and apts in their old hood they aim for the burbs. Black people need fire under their ass before they get up and push weight. the influx and income increase with socal blacks is a direct response to the blue collar lower paying jobs getting stripped.

The rest of the country see socal nikkas as nerdy or more formal...but really we just dropped the bloods and crip let it go to the cholos and moved to the burbs with the whites. crazy how we went from nwa to odd future. I'm actually glad our neighborhoods are associated with burbs and instead of guns our youth skateboard.

There's still places like watts that's hanging in but give it a decade.....

Glad the black youth let go of that bullshyt bloods/ crips of yesteryear. Yeah, I definitely see blacks identify with liberal whites than Hispanics these days. Maybe cause of the fear of learning the Spanish language :manny:

Fair Enough

New Jersey QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

Jersey

Blacks 14.6%
Latinos 18.1% and I would argue more than this since a lot of Cubans etc, identify as white.

NY is close to even

Blacks 17.5%
Latinos 18%

Now granted Cali and Texas have a much larger ratio, but Latino's are not just another minority group over here. Because the next group is Asians and they are non existent in comparison.

im not sure what you mean, you just posted stats that say the pop of blacks and latino are basically equal in the east coast, i think that proves my point

in the southwest, hispanics are the main hispanic group Demographics of California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 39.7% Non-Hispanic White, 6.6% Black or African American, 13.6% Asian, 1.0% American Indian, 0.4% Pacific Islander

so the racial make up of the south west and the east coast is completely different not to mention the makeup of latinos in the east coast is way more diverse, in the SW its almost all mexican and central american

so the two situations are not comparable

this is BS, the only thing you can say about racism in latin america is that it plays out different, but its a lie to say that its somehow less pernicious, less systematic, deliberate and ingrained than the US, thats a complete lie

you going as an american is not comparable what happens when a black person or indigenous goes into a business and tried to get a job

for example i always knew mexico was a racist ass country the minute i stepped into it, if you look at mexican television and the politicians with power, they are all white, the first time i went to mexico you have to walk across the bridge in tijuana and the whole bridge is filled with indigenous women and children begging for money, so the racism of mexico hit me full force the minute i stepped into it, only somebody that is avoiding the issue or not thinking about it can miss the racism, and no i personally do not experience racism in mexico because when i go im a tourist or clubbing not an actual resident that has to look for a job and pay bills, but i know racism when i see it tho cuz i keep my eyes open

 o yea cause the Chinese are racially progressive

I haven't had any problem. :manny: in fact its a well known fact foreigners get special treatment. there is internal racism but I wouldnt even call it racism since Chinese vs Japanese is within their own race.

How in the hell do you think there is lack of racial progression or racial divide in a non multicultural country lol turn your tv off its lying to you lol

Why don't u take a trip out to southern Cali and see if u feel the same way

That only means more well paying job opportunities for you so that should make you very happy. The huge defense, health and technology(silicon valley) sectors in California conduct their business in English and will continue to. I would be more concerned with all those H1B visas than some bigoted non-english speaking Mexican taking your sh1tty landscaping job.

Exactly, a black dude can go to Mexico as an American tourist and be treated well. But an Afro-Mexican from Veracruz is treated like crap there because they are black.

this is true to certain extent, now that ive shytted on mexicans i think its time to shyt on black people, its true the real problem in the black community is not illegal immigration its the low level of education cuz black people that are educated can do well in california

but in the real world black people are stuck in the low end and along with poor whites and they do feel the effects of illegal immigration a lot more than white liberals and republican businessmen who are pushing for amnesty

this is a good example of illegals stealing jobs in the bay
Pacific Steel forced to lay off 200 workers due to ICE raid | abc7news.com

now im not gonna knock the hustle too much cuz i think if anything black people should take notes, what happens in places like this and ive seen it happen a lot is that a few mexicans get in and the hr manager or some low level manager are also hispanic and using word of mouth pretty soon the only people hired are mexican legals and illegal, and the whole whole work place is speaking more spanish than english and pretty much black and white workers cant get in, and the hr person and management turn a blind eye as long as the job gets done and profits are coming in

thats why im not down with amnesty, or cosign an invasion, under amnesty all those 200 people would have just stayed and the blacks in the bay area who are job hunting would not have any chance of getting these decent jobs that dont require education

but again i have to acknowledge the real problem is education but illegal immigration doesnt help and also the reason why tech companies need h1b visas is that blacks and latinos are not being educated at a high enough rate to go for tech jobs

:childplease:

so indigenous people begging along the border = mexico is racist?
do you know the history of northern mexico and how the U.S owned sweatshops in the region created cost of living that is at least 30% higher near the border for people, leading them (mostly women) to live in shanty towns and resort to begging or selling sht to make ends meet despite having fulltime work? that has nothing to do with mexican "racism" and everything to do with american corporations exploiting workers like they do in asia.
second, less than 10% of the people in mexico are predominantly european, unlike the U.S where white people are still the majority. everyone else is either mixed indigenous/white or indigenous.
you've been to a tourist city and that is in no way indicative of a country as huge as mexico as a whole. its like going to miami and saying "damn the u.s is full of cubans and retired jews"
the problem in mexico and everywhere else isnt racism. it's classism.
racism is a farce to keep everyone fukkin with each other over bullshyt.
