Criminal it took this long

"Criminal"? He was a one-dimensional player coming off the bench for title teams. Yeah, at 24-29 minutes he was an important contributor, but come on. Never made a single All-Star game his entire career. Imagine being Norm Nixon and you're starting over this guy, playing 40 minutes a game, making All-Star teams, but he ends up in the HOF and you don't just because he stayed on the Lakers for longer.

If you aren't considered good enough to play 30 minutes for your own team, then you shouldn't be considered one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

If Cooper is in the Hall of Fame then Draymond should be a first-ballot lock lol. Just waiting for Kerr, Horry, and Fisher to get their call-ups.

This. What is the point of saying he'd "lock up" a guy who scored most of his points on off-ball catch-and-shoot? Was Michael Cooper especially good at fighting through screens? I don't even remember if anyone was doing multiple-screen sets to free up jump shooters in that era.

All of this. The whole response doesn't make any sense.
are you fukking crazy. He had to chase Bird though multiple screens

If this happened with any regularity, then it should be easy to produce the video. There are tons of Lakers-Celtics games online, show me any stretch of gameplay where Cooper is successfully chasing Bird through multiple screens with any frequency at all.

Here's an entire 9 minutes of Larry Bird off-ball movement. I count TWO plays in nine minutes where he got 2 screens, and those screens were low effort. On a few plays he got one screen, but the most common thing was him just running around a little off-ball and counting on his defender to get lost or start ball-watching even if nobody screens him.

Literally the very first play of the video is Michael Cooper getting lost by Bird's off-ball movement cause he got confused on a half-assed screen and went in the wrong direction with no one switching onto Bird at all. :mjlol:

Above the fray.
And for anybody who wants to run with "bitter vet" tag on Cooper....
there's a story that Jerry West told years ago about Kobe thst he didn't reveal full details of.

Said he brought in Kobe ahead of the draft, and had a retired Laker come in to workout against. Said the high school kid showed him he belonged in the NBA after that.

Years later, when Kobe was still alive Coop admitted that Kobe cooked him.
