My Pops Forever RIP
So you're telling me if Sanchez went 17 TD's and 5 int's the Jets wouldn't be happy with that?

That would get the Jets back to the playoffs I should have prefaced it by saying the Jets would love a performance like Smith's last year.

I agree Smith on NYJ without Harbaugh's tutelage would be a disaster.

But we`ll see how much of a bum he is this year, I`d bet my life he outperforms Sanchez.

the 5 int's? Great. the 17td's? The scoring would have to come from somewhere else. That somewhere else ain't Shonn Greene.

In fairness to Sanchez, for as much as I think he should be able to get more out of his core, the Jets' scouting /front office should be fried for not being able to find diamonds in the rough. Part of that has to do with no having picks, but that also has to do with their awful track record with UDFA's that can produce.

I'm telling you averaging 5.1 yards in the air per throw and still winning games is something most qbs are capable of doing.

Let's not make this into an arguement over Alex Smith. He was the king of checkdowns last year.

A prolific checkdown passer.

A titan of throwing the checkdown pass.

The king of hitting a running back or TE.....on the checkdown.

A 40% passer in the red zone.

Please.....don't do this.

I'm not bigging up Sanchez.

You're bigging up Alex Smith.....and his ability to launch check down passes.

I`m actually giving him credit for taking hits and playing well.

No matter what you call it, he played well last year and was sacked more than anyone in the NFL. He didn't let the hits force him to make poor decisions.

But you're right, he did check down an awful lot in 2011, but in 2012........

He played within the safe limits of that offense in 2011.

I expect a better year from here this year though with the weapons he has.

Yea, he was an extension of the coach, when he absolutely needed to make plays he did at times (Philly, New Orleans) and at other times he didn't (Baltimore, NYG)

All I was trying to get at is what he did last year would do wonders for the Jets because they have a top notch defense and what Alex did played into his defense and ST.

I can see what you're saying on the Gerrard shyt because he put up damn near identical numbers, but Alex was first time learning the system with no training camp or off-season.

I think his prospects will be better than Gerrard, and they drafted a guy last year who is nowhere near taking his job

word ? so how many QBs have actually had 17 tds and 5 ints while having 6 game winning drives ? :mjpls: since most QBs are capable of doing that ?
it takes skills to be game manager and not turn the ball over. Im not sold on alex but lets not act like sanchez while having a great defense and in a conservative offense did anything similar.

thats just not true. if you actually have watched the niners last year. it was true two years ago and before that. gore would have 60 receptions and shyt.
not so last year at all, gore and hunter combined for like 30 receptions.

unless of course you consider a 5-10 yard pass a "checkdown" and not a designated route. but then tom brady would be a king of checkdowns by your logic :lolbron:

also cant remember the last time our TE went for a checkdown underneath. wed either keep them in for blocking cuz our oline was fukking up or send them on designated post routes (vernon, delaine) or quick slants (eg., delaine against the lions) just like we would with WRs

Tom Brady is in the bottom half of yards in the air passing. :pacspit:

But he's still higher than Alex Smith whose defense was good enough to keep his prolific checkdown comebacks in the game.

I give the defense more credit for those comeback wins than Alex Smith.

The comebacks weren't a lot of checkdown, check the Eagles game he was throwing into the teeth of the defense down 21 points to come back and win.

I don't think Sanchez ever had a comeback like that. And giving the defense more credit is silly, you really give the D more credit for a 21 point comeback in the second half?

Why are you still bringing up Sanchez? I know...the thread. I'm talking about Alex Smith.

I know you do, but you didnt answer my questions
also, just because a ball traveled in air less than 10 yards doesnt make a throw a checkdown

I'm slandering dude. I'm really basing it off of his horrible performance against the Giants.

But he makes the safest throws in the league.

I saw Chad Pennington's career. I know safe throws when I see them.

He is the king of safe throws.

with that I agree :manny: but nothing wrong with that imo especially if situation says you dont have to force shyt. my point was even when Jets D was beasting, sanchez never was better than alex last year under a similar conservative offense.

also, to finish that other thing, the least yards in the air statistics is kinda meaningless without taking into account the passing attempts
so better use overall % of short throws. unless I missed something.
even then I think alex would still be at the bottom of the league :lolbron:

I feel a sort of ways of debating third year Sanchez being better than a say third year Alex Smith.

I really feel that it's a futile argument all around. For all of the safe throws, Alex was a 40% passer in the red zone last season.

At the end of the day...it's Alex SMith and Mark Sanchez....really...Alex SMith and Mark Sanchez.

:manny:
