It's not even obscure.. It was a HUGE mainstream story..On major news networks nightly and on the cover of every mainstream super market publication..

It's literally like someone mentioning "Trayvon and Skittles" in 2016 and people being clueless about what he really meant

:mjlol:

I'm sure they'll be some slow bus n1gga sayin "Well he didn't mention his last name, how we supposed to know who he was?"

:troll:
:sadcam:That's me breh I thought Ennis was a Brooklyn hustler or some shyt.:mjcry:

The context clues were all over the verse.."Switching a spare" "No father figure"

Cosby was known as Black America's dad for over 2 decades...

It's not big a deal, this has happened several times...I know Jay-Z better than most of his hardcore fans..Which is why I can accurately rate and critique his work and make them get in their shallow azz feelings

Y'all tryin' hard as shyt to discredit this rhyme, like just anybody woulda picked that up... especially the lines prior to mentioning his name. Usually, people just connect the references together. Not some shyt where you're sayin' fixin' a flat on the highway of life... and then further down the line you happen to mention that name... it's not obvious to anybody not specifically listening for it, or picking it up and then running it back and connecting the highway reference.

"Left him on the road like the Cosby kid"- Cam'ron, 1997. THIS is an obvious reference.

That Jay shyt ain't no simplified lyric... come on now... :comeon:

The lyric was dope, cool little line that I felt.. I don't want to discredit it...

But this was an album he made after he sold 5 milliion and vowed to dumb down for his audience..

Just think about that for a second...

Being perplexed or extremely impressed by it says more about you than it does about him...

I always thought he wrote Decoded for his white fans and casual hip hop listeners from outside of the culture..I didn't know n1ggas was really getting unknown jewels from it..

this is the harder shyt I heard Jay spit lyrically, and the first rap I ever memorized

Once again
Hold the gun at eye level, i ain't afraid of conflict
I let the nine rip, nikka say "hi" to the devil
I blind with the bezel, I'm in line with the ghetto
What yall nikkaz afraid of my mind or the metal
nikkas tryna subtract my life, my mathematics is precise
I carry the nine, so fukking with me just ain't the answer
I can't lose when i was young i was like Fresh
Poppa raised me to chess moves
And though your gone I'm not bitter you left me prepared
We got divided by the years, but i got it from here
Don't sweat that, sounds bump from Marcy to Lefrak
To that spot in DC where my man caught his death at
Over my years I've seen Rooks get tooken by the Knight
Lose they Crown tryna defend a Queen
Checkmate, in 4 moves the Bobby Fischer of rap
With raw moves in a time where we all move
Lets face it either your dough chasing, or basing
Lacing, cops got your face sprung like mason
Careful, any infiltration I'm leaving nikkas
Leaking more than just information

Uh. no...

Because songs like the "Dynasty Intro" weren't the songs he was marketing to the people who went out and bought the albums. Songs like "Big Pimpin", "I Just Wanna Love U", "Excuse Me Miss", "Change Clothes"... THESE are songs he was "dumbing down and doubling dollars" with. All those albums had album cuts where he lyrically dug in more than he would on the lighter singles... this track being one of those. If you know his music, you know that.

Ok..

Let's just say my definition for "digging in lyrically" is different than yours...Because if the Ennis line is one of your examples of his depth then I just don't see it like that...Which is probably why I don't think he's as great as a lot of other people do..I realize my opinion is in the minority, so do with that what you wish...

:snoop:

I see you're gonna play like you don't know what I mean, that's cool.

OK fine, I'm a "dumb" Jigga stan who's easily impressed by his rhymes... and a joint like the Dynasty Intro is lyrically on-par with his club-friendly, radio-friendly "I Just Wanna Love U" from the same album. But my blind stanism is making me think one is more lyrically adept than the other. Clearly, had the intro been the single, it would've been a huge cash cow for Jay all the same, with its dumbed-down content.

You got it, breh. U right. U the real MVP.

It's a minority opinion, but it's the correct one. Jay z isn't "deep". He's good at communicating regular things in a very terse, straightforward way. His slow lazy voice sometimes helps him sound profound, but most of what he says is ankle deep.
