The more critical I am of the album, the more I disagree with that.

This feels more like Jay-Z making sure black people have his back as he's amongst crackers.

He's really only going as far as to say the music industry is unfair and he doesn't really go in.

But, much like Kanye, he's as pro-black as the amount of power he wants.

I still haven't forgot him dissing Mr. Belafonte simply because he asked him and his wife to do more for us.

This "behind-the-scenes" stuff ain't enough. He didn't support gay marriage BTS. He sat down and spoke on it. And it's too much "just hustle, you can be rich," instead of the truth of "they will only let the ones they choose inside."

It's a critical look into the music, but, I think that's fair.
Harry Belafonte dissed his wife over something that was completely fake based on some fake TMZ headline, when actually they are among the people who do the most in their business. I.e. he was hating, and got called out for it and squashed it. Dude really said that Jay-z and Beyonce are among the worst people in modern time for not being socially conscious and gave props to Bruce Springsteen and said that he was a real black person.

Why the hell would Jay-z, former drug dealer of 14 years or whatever, pop bottles on the white house lawn not respond to such an incorrect and disrespectful diss from anyone?:mjlol:

It would have to be my mother saying some shyt like that for me not to react.

Jay was real open on this album.

Old Brooklyn not this new shyt, shyt feel like a spoof
Fat laces in your shoe I'm talking busting off the roof

I'm surprised he didn't address being the mascot for English and Russian oligarchs furthering gentrification in his hometown and renigging on providing jobs.

Jay-Z pre Black Lives Matter has a substandard record on social issue. And selling nikkas dream about million dollar paintings and $2 Million cribs in DUMBO ain't the work.

Jay could have feelings hurt and Mr Belafonte used hyperbole, but, was he wrong?

I'm only hear to say I didn't like his "my presense is charity" bullshyt.

Do you googles, you are not as old as Belafonte.

And I really don't know if the arena has anything to do with gentrification, it was in one of the relatively whiter neighborhoods in Brooklyn, not in the "hood". Personally I think Brooklyn is cooler now than it was 15 years ago, more things to do, more international feel, more jobs, less crime and the black population is still significant though (increasing in some areas and decreasing in others). But now there's more black middle class, rich, yuppies and shyt like that too.

Still don't believe the arena had anything to do with it, gentrification is based on the fact that people have nowhere to live in cities with limited land. Like London, San Francisco, New York, DC and on. Population increasing, land stays the same and people want to live close to the city. It's just basic economics, the ones with less money have to move further from the city. It's like people who have money can have a Ferrari, those who don't can't. It's just a harsh reality, at least there's rent stabilization and plans for more in the borough which is great.

People seem to think Brooklyn is some small hood like Compton or something, it would be one of the biggest cities in the US if it was a city.

Yes, Belafonte was wrong. Basically you guys want Jay Z to broadcast all the charitable shyt he does like he's Taylor Swift. It's a standard you hold no one else in hip hop too. Jay Z was doing more than your favorite rapper even then. And right now he is partnered with Belafonte's foundation and helps fund them through TIDAL.

He does a lot of stuff, both socially and personally (like paying in part or in full for Sean Price's funeral, or paying for Sean Bell's children's future/present tuitions) but he doesn't say most of what he does.

But guarantee if he did speak on the stuff he did while he did it, people would shyt on him and say he only does it for the pub.

:yeshrug:

Damned if you do, damned if you don't in some people's eyes.
