Jay didn’t body Electronica? Where are people getting this?

jay got him on Flux, but everything else was tit 4 tat. Hov doesnt a verse better than Jays on Ezekial Wheel, Fruits is the spirit, and A.P.I.D.T.A on this album those are the best verses on it

Actually had a conversation about this with a friend earlier, he's a rapper too, quite a big Jay-Z fan, likes Jay Electronica too. We went through it track by track who had the better verses on the ones they both have them...

Ghost Of Soulja Slim, both have an ill ass verse, really feeling both of their verses, he said Jay-Z, I was happy to agree with that but only slightly if so. Jay Elec has some fire shyt in that verse so it's a hard 1 for me, may be equal, but let's say Jay-Z slightly.

The Blinding is back and forth, but Jay Elect for sure we both said.

The Neverending Story both said Jay Elec.

Shiny Suit Theory, he said Jay-Z, I wasn't sure, Jay-Z's verse was dope though so was happy to write it down as Jay-Z as was unsure myself.

Universal Solider, they both KILL, but Jay Electronica we both said for sure.

Flux Capictor, we both said Jay-Z no doubt.

So off that basis, there's 6 songs with verses from both of them and could be 3 and 3, which is respectable for an artist of the stature and skill of Jay-Z. Some of those are debatable too, the only 1 I feel was clearly Jay-Z was Flux Capictor so I don't agree with the narrative Jay-Z killed him on all the tracks at all, at best it was even, not to mention there's 3 dope songs Jay-Z doesn't spit verses on like you mentioned.

I HAVE SOME OF THE SAME THOUGHTS
AS JOE REGARDING THIS ALBUM...

I ESPECIALLY FEEL
IF YOURE GONNA DO 1 VERSE TRACKS,
AFTER A 10 YR WAIT AT THAT,
EACH VERSE BETTER BE ABSOLUTELY NUTS...

THERE WAS NO CRAZY RAPPING ON THIS ALBUM...

IT FEELS LIKE nikkaS DID JUST ENOUGH
TO PASS THE CLASS LYRICALLY
AND LET THE BEATS CARRY THE PROJECT.

That’s what I was getting at the songs I mentioned verses are better than all the ones Jay Z spit on the album. Plus I have them at 3 and 3

That's fair, I think that's a narrative that was just made because Jay-Z was on the album and then people heard it and repeated it. Not really based off analysis. I don't think Jay-Z washed Jay Elec throughout the album at all. A few people told me their favourite song was Fruit Of the Spirit which is pretty much a solo and the most popular song from what I've seen is A.P.I.D.A and Jay-Z doesn't have any verses. It's very much Jay Elec's album but with Jay in a strong supporting role.

Hov had people listening to some of Jay Elects strongest work wondering if they would get a Hov verse and left himself off of those songs

:ohhh:

I assume because Budden tried to get Jay-Z's attention for years with a fairly extensive catalog.

Jay Electronica doesn't have half as many songs as Budden yet secured a Jay-Z collaboration on his debut album.

Fred.
Budden doesn’t get that he’s not deep that’s why Hov respects Nas and Jay Electronica
