Bully Ray Believes That Bullet Club Needs a New Leader

WWE Hall of Famer and co-host of Busted Open Radio on SiriusXM Bully Ray recently discussed the NJPW faction Bullet Club. This past weekend saw New Japan hold their Dominion event, which was headlined by Tetsuya Naito putting his IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships on the line against his Los Ingobernables’ partner EVIL.

EVIL would win the bout following interference from Bullet Club, after which he joined the infamous group. Bully Ray would talk about EVIL joining the group on Busted Open, where co-host Dave LaGreca claimed that EVIL joining ‘breathed new life’ into Bullet Club.

Bully Ray on EVIL
“So I just want to talk about what you said about EVIL joining Bullet Club; breathing life into the Bullet Club” Bully Ray began on the show. “I kind of see where you’re coming from, but I don’t think the Bullet Club has been anywhere near what it was in the past.”

Bully Ray elaborated further, saying “I’m not even talking about when Cody and the Bucks where there [in New Japan]. Just that original inception of the Bullet Club, the heydays of the Bullet Club. EVIL being there is cool. Jay White as the head of the Bullet Club? I’m still on the fence [about that].”

Jay White
Ray would then state that he is a fan of White’s in-ring work, but that as a personality he is lacking in terms of ‘leadership.’ “I don’t think Jay White has the personality to be the leader of a group like the Bullet Club. I’m not talking about Jay White in the ring. Jay White is frickin phenomenal in the ring yada yada. But the Bullet Club is/was something special. It had that nWo-esque feel.”

Bully Ray would then reveal who he thinks should be leading the group. “To me, Tama Tonga has to take control of the Bullet Club, because he has that edginess. He has that killer instinct, that vibe. I want to see Tama be the head of the Bullet Club. Just think of him as the spokesperson for that Club? I think restores it to its original badassery. That’s just my take on the Bullet Club.”

What y’all think Purobrehs?:ohhh:

Let me start by saying nobody should give a fukk about what Bully Ray thinks about puro wrestling.

But he's not necessarily wrong about Tama Tonga being the leader (or at least mouth piece) of Bullet Club. He's a founding member and has the attitude and swag in spades. He should really be in the Gedo position where he backs up the BC title challengers/defenders at ringside with heel shyt.

I've said it earlier in this thread that as much of a Bullet Club stan that I am that I feel like this current "Cutthroat Era" of the group is lackin' what the previous eras had.

Devitt Era revolutionized the industry creating a stable of renegade not giving a fukk gaijins running shyt and laying the foundations of what future stables need to do to gain notoriety.

Styles Era went the next step by adding: tons of title reigns and champion recognitions to the members of the stables as well as becoming so popular that the american crowds are showing their support in a major way.

Omega Era went the next step by not only etching their legacies with accomplishments (5 star, 6 star 7 star matches, historic G1 win, Wrestle Kingdom main events, etc) but the brand "Bullet Club" officially crossed over to main stream appeal to major shops (Hot Topic), merchandising (over 100 variety of t-shirts, Funko Pop figures, etc) video games (Tekken 7 DLC inclusion, CEO Gaming Tournaments, etc.) Even grown so popular that they created their own legendary ppv "All In" that was so successful they created a entire new wrestling federation All Elite Wrestling that is DIRECT competition to Vince McMahon and the WWE on a major network.

Cutthroat Era kinda regressed with all those accomplishments mainly due to a few issues. 1) Gedo and Jado should have NEVER join the Bullet Club. It never made sense that Gedo would leave the golden goose Okada after his historic over 2 years title reign knowing that Okada will become champion again many times in the future... never made any sense to me. 2) Tama and Fale should have became the leaders of the current era when The Elite left being both are original founders of the stable. Jay White taking the leadership before he won the IWGP Title never made any sense. 3) This era really haven't made any significant accomplishments outside of Evil winning the New Japan Cup AND becoming a triple champion in which a lot of people have rejected for whatever reason. 4) The COVID may have delayed any progression the stable could have had this year and that delay might have hurt the stable.

Overall I still have love for the Bullet Club but they need to reshuffle the deck and do something worth wild in the future and not become stale in which I fear they are becoming.

:hhh:I'm just still in awe of how they did NaiGOAT. EVIL of all people didn't need both them bytches.
I'm confused.... do BOTH belts need to be on the line at every defense now? I originally thought the winner of the tournament would only get a shot at the main title. Will Evil drop one of the titles to someone in the future?

Gedo turning on Okada might have made sense if Okada was like....38 and on the decline. Not 30 and probably yet to even enter his true prime.

He should of been the leader especially when they were beefing with the elite . Jay white is mediocre as leader

Just finished watching them destroy my boy Naito like that. :mjcry: He just gotta be tranquilo and he'll get his revenge. :mjcry:

Looks like Hiromu got next. Is the G1 the next big event? Maybe he enters that and wins it. I don't believe he was in last year cuz of the injury. Yeah I'm sure I didn't see him in it. Is Evil gonna be the BC leader? Or at least for now cuz I think Jay White still stuck over here. That's depending on how long the covid affects things and they start to tour.Think Japan got things under control and should be able to completely handle the virus soon. Interesting to see how this BC vs LIJ feud plays out. Plus wonder what happens now that Evil defected and doesn't he have the six man belts with Shingo and Bushi? Unless they take his title for deflecting and give it to Sanada or Naito?

Hiromu is a junior, he's the jr champ He's not winning the G1, that's a heavywright tournament that even though some jrs participante, there's no chance of them winning.

such discrimination :wow:. Well lets see what that looks like and if any of the US wrestlers can compete in it by then. Its less people than the cup so maybe it won't be that difficult gathering up a decent field.

:patrice:Given how thin the roster is currently and how popular Hiromu is maybe they would actually let him win the G1 this year especially given the fact that there was no Best of the Super Juniors this year
