Would you? Especially in Japan where loyalty is held in an even higher regard. The dude is super likely to hit a :ld: one day and walk away again. Not to mention, Tanahashi does NOT like dude. And I can't imagine he's the only one. Dude left the company hanging when it was at its darkest point and he was one of the few bright spots they had. I'm sure there are some loyalists who outright don't want to see him eat.

Oh no, I get it. Hell, I was the one who posted the comments from Tanahashi's book in this thread. I'm just saying, that dude's going to be in NJPW's version of Mid-Card Hell for the rest of his wrestling career, it seems.

And Tanahashi certainly wasn't the only one. I know that Nakamura wasn't too pleased with him coming back either. So yes, I get it.

Yeah you'd have to imagine Tana and Naka would be the two most against it. The three of them were always linked. He bails. They put the company on their backs through thick and thin for years, he gets tired of getting mollywhopped in MMA and comes back.

I think where he REALLY fukked up though was not committing to NOAH in 2005/6. He was exactly the type of person they needed; a new legit heavyweight. Shibta would have been perfect to bridge the gap to Morishima and Go when they were ready, instead of the disasterous Rikio run, and Misawa having to bail them out repeatedly

Thing about NOAH is that they were by far the most insular company of all the Japanese feds when it came to outsiders (Ricky Marvin's been there forever AND is their official foreign liason, and he STILL isn't allowed into the main NOAH locker room the last time I checked). Shibata could have been the guy that bridged the gap between Kobashi and Morishima and Go, but who knows if he would have gotten the chance?

I just think that Shibata was burned out on wrestling as a whole, similar to Jeff Hardy in the mid-2000s or CM Punk now. He needed to leave and figure out whether he wanted to come back or not. It's just that doing that in Puro is widely frowned upon, and he hamstrung his future career prospects by doing it in the way that he did.

Has Shibata ever really done an interview discussing exactly the how's and why's of him leaving NJPW and wrestling altogether in the mid-2000s? That'd be an interesting read.

He's still got Naito at the final.

You never know. :ld:

Nakamura/Okada should be amazing.

And they're NEVER going to give Shibata a full bore push, are they? :damn:

I meant on the G-1. He SHOULD win at the Dome but they might prolong his big W :wow:

I still think Shibata will get a shot at some point but unless something weird happens, he's bound to have the Goto role.

Im still trying to figure out why Goto still has that role. They halted the hell out of his push too

There was just always that person a bit more interesting/hotter than him. :wow:

The only person who was champ that's arguably not over him is Makabe, but he won the title wrapping up the GBH/CHAOS feud, with GBH turning on him to link up with heel-turn Naka and then face Makabe finally getting revenge. And then after that Tana blacked out and became the best dude in the world for a bit, and then out of fukking nowhere Okada turns into an ace.

Or shyt, I forgot about 2008 when he won the G1...but Mutoh was the champ after Tanahashi's contract dispute, and I'd imagine NJPW was doing pretty good business with his nostalgia run, and there was no better move than having Mutoh/Tana main event in the Dome to finally put him over as the #1 dude.

Nope, Makabe's definitely over him. He makes appearances in the Japanese mainstream fairly often and people love the guy. He was just never going to be THE guy for NJPW.

Youre prob right. But he also won the NJ Cup like 3 times so I figured his time was coming

Breh, you serious about that Ricky marvin rumor. Dude been there for years and hes not seen as apart of their roster. Why do foreign cats like Hero, Fish, Zabrer Jr even work for them constantly then? (I know Japan tours are respect in the world of wrestling but I don't think I could do years of tours with them and not be seen as a peer by now.)

It's kinda odd, but It's not just limited to foreigners. If you weren't an AJPW guy or a NOAH trainee, you dressed in the Gaijin locker room. Hell, Akitoshi Saito had been with NOAH since damn near the beginning, and he STILL dressed in the Gaijin locker room. It's a very, very insular place when it comes to foreigners (which, despite their use of foreign talent, carries over from All Japan, and from segments of Japanese culture as a whole).

They don't really treat them like shyt or anything, the locker rooms are just segregated. Besides that, relations are actually pretty good from what I've read, and the experience one gets from working in Japan is invaluable.

But again, this could be outdated info.

Day 11. Not too happy with the booking, (no Honma win, Gallows over Shibata etc) but Ishii/Nagata is a must watch and Okada/Suzuki seems to be well liked. Dome show should be up later today.

Ishii/Nagata:

Shibata/Gallows :pacspit:

Fale/Nak:

Okada/Suzuki:

For a Dome show, the crowd was pretty damn hot for the final. The final section of that match was fukking awesome, the rest was fine. I liked that they didn't OD for the ending so they have plenty to work with for a future rematch :blessed:

Don't want Jarret near New Japan, stick to promoting for fukks sakes :snoop:
