Recent Diamond Ring, Ibushi/Nakajima vs Kanemaru/Suzuki. Hoping Kanemaru doesn't drag this down too much;

So this is tomorrow:

The major PPV of the month on 9/29 in Kobe at www.ustream.tv/channel/njpw1972 starts at 3 a.m. Eastern time and midnight Pacific. Complete lineup, in order, is Takashi Iizuka & Yujiro Takahashi & Yoshi-Hashi vs. Tiger Mask & Bushi & Takaaki Watanabe, Alex Shelley & Kushida vs. Taka Michinoku & Taichi (winners become top contenders for the Forever Hooligans’ IWGP jr. tag titles), Rob Conway vs. Jushin Liger for the NWA title, Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma & Captain New Japan & Mascara Dorada vs. Karl Anderson & Bad Luck Fale & Tama Tonga & Rey Bucanero, Minoru Suzuki vs. Toru Yano, Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi vs. Kazushi Sakuraba & Katsuyori Shibata, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Prince Devitt in a lumberjack death match, Masato Tanaka defends the Never title vs. the #1 contendership for the IWGP title held by Tetsuya Naito, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Shelton Benjamin for the IC title and Kazuchika Okada vs. Satoshi Kojima for the IWGP heavyweight title.

No interest in this PPV.

The annual Global League tournament takes place from 10/19 to 11/10, with the finals at Korakuen Hall. It’s the company’s big singles title tournament, with the winner getting a shot at KENTA’s GHC title (unless KENTA wins himself). It’ll be split into an A and B block, each with seven members. The winner of each block goes into the finals. The A block has KENTA, Morishima, Yone, Nakajima (Diamond Ring promotions), Haste, Eddie Edwards (ROH) and Daisuke Sekimoto (Big Japan). The B block has Sugiura, Marufuji, Nicholls, Taniguchi, Akitoshi Saito, Ryoji Sai (Zero-One) and Yuji Nagata (New Japan). It’s a good list as far as the last three outsiders when it comes to having some new and good singles matches

This is the best NOAH card in a while:

The next big show is 10/5 at the Yokohama Bunka Gym which is pretty loaded. Lineup announced thus far is KENTA vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima for the GHC heavyweight title, Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste vs. Takashi Sugiura & Yoshihiro Takayama for the GHC heavyweight tag titles, Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask defend the GHC jr. tag titles against Taiji Ishimori & Atsushi Kotoge, Naomichi Marufuji & Mohammed Yone vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Yoshi-Hashi from New Japan, plus Takeshi Morishima vs. Kensuke Sasaki.

AJPW going to Sumo Hall :patrice:

Akebono, who signed exclusively here, won the Oudou tournament by pinning Go Shoizaki in 17:10 with a jumping piledriver. This should lead to Suwama vs. Akebono for the Triple Crown. The first semifinal was on 9/19 in Toyohashi as Akebono pinned Bambikiller in 6:13 with a jumping piledriver. The second, on 9/21 in Hashimoto, saw Shiozaki pin Joe Doering in 15:03 after the Go flasher.

Akebono’s title challenge to Suwama’s Triple Crown will headline the company’s attempt at a major show on 10/27 at Sumo Hall. Given that the company’s last big show in Tokyo in August drew 1,059 fans, renting out Sumo Hall doesn’t seem like the prudent move. The only other match announced so far is Atsushi Aoki & Kotaro Suzuki defending the All Asia tag titles against Shigehiro Irie & Keisuke Ishii from the DDT promotion
.
Low Ki was announced as being off the rest of the tour after the Akebono match on 9/16 due to broken ribs. A few days earlier, Low Ki had tried to fight Hikaru Sato, a former Pancrase protege of Minoru Suzuki (probably not the right guy to want to start a fight with). There wasn’t an actual fight, but it didn’t do him any favors and he was pretty down on options after his playing Halloween dress-up at the Tokyo Dome show unauthorized by the promotion (and then absolutely tearing the house down with his wrestling) in January. I still can’t get over his blowing it with New Japan at this stage of his career but he did. The perception from there was more than questioning if the rib injury was legit. Either way, because of the Sato incident, he was said to have been fired, but even if he quit, he’s not expected back. That didn’t take long.

Been slow recently :yeshrug:

The Hitman cosplay wasnt authorized? :snoop:

Well...it's apparently bit more complicated than that. Ki did it to promote the Hitman release in Japan (apparently, the office was fine with it) but a sponsor got pissed about it, and the NJPW office responded by pushing all of the heat onto Low Ki and firing him. He was apparently on his best behavior over there too.

This, if true, is just dumb though. C'mon man. :snoop:

Edit: AJPW expects that garbage to draw? :heh:

I'm checking for that NJPW show. An all-out Okada/Kojima is the match I most wanted to see post-G1. MiSu/Yano should be great on account of MiSu. Naito/Tanaka is important. Naito really can't afford to be up and down like he has been throughout much of career during these next few months. This is going to be a major win for him, and has to start the momentum for his Dome showdown with Okada.

The last 10 minutes of Tana vs Ishii were absolutely beautiful. I've been an Ishii stan since he carried Inoue's sorry ass to a legit MOTYC in a fukking LOCK UP show in 09' and watching him work that Korakuen Hall magic in the MAIN EVENT of a G-1 show almost brought a tear to my eye brehs :to:

Jesus that finish looked like some back in the day AJPW Burning Hammer shyt. That head drop was stiff as fukk!

None of the G1 besides Tana/Ishii? You need to check these two for sure if you haven't already:

But apart from the G1 it's been a little slow, there's been some solid stuff from NOAH and Big Japan but nothing really spectacular. I really liked the six man I posted from Diamond Ring, it's simple stuff but older dudes in there with an upstart (Miyahara here) nearly always delivers in Puro.

So I hear Kota Ibushi is officially signed with New Japan now. Guess he'll probably be the one to finally take the Junior Heavyweight title from Devitt.

New Japan also just announced The Young Bucks will be debuting on October 25th for their Jr. tag tournament. They'll be representing Bullet Club.
