Their English TV show is a year out of date. The owner saying they want to be #1 is obviously just talking shyt and building his brand. WWE operates at magnitudes higher level monetarily than NJ. NJPW has been using ROH for the past few years to build a US audience so they can run similar sized shows without ROH branding and talent. NJ tried to form a US brand with NJ Dojo USA and it did nothing but lose money in the handful of shows they ran.

The NJ US brand will be basically ROH/NJ shows but on the West Coast. Who gives a shyt about that? NJ will never, ever be a competitor to WWE. It never has been and and it never will be. NJ hasn't sold out the Tokyo Dome in literally 20 years, and the last few WK shows have been nearly half of what they were a couple of years ago despite the improving numbers everywhere else. They should be focusing on getting back to a point where they can do 50-60K at the Tokyo Dome before they're worrying about trying to compete with WWE in the US.

But the thing is, Kidani himself is aware of that. We were all :leon: at how smart and grounded he was when talking about the "expansion". That's why I'm :why: at people losing their shyt about it because the dude just wants to try to get a dojo going first and nothing else. I'm saying he wants to be #1 is just being a damn promoter like stro said, he's supposed to say that, and once you read his actual plan you realize he's not going for anything ground breaking...as he shouldn't, that's why the dude sounded so smart.

I've said multiple times the TV thing is interesting because that will determine how much effort they have to put on the West Coast territory. But we have no clue what that's gonna be like or if they are even gonna get a decent one so :manny:

Obviously a West Coast "territory" would just be their gajin working shows with other local SoCal guys and occasional fly ins from mid card dudes. And all of those guys work on shows together all the time so it'd just be another indie that happens to have NJPW branding.

How was Shibata/Okada?

I have not seen the match, but the general consensus is that for the story told, it was a brilliant showing (particularly for Shibata in terms of establishing himself as a main-event type) marred by a nonsensical booking decision/finish.

This, wouldn't call it nonsensical but "undeserved" considering what happened in the match.

But honestly, I have no fukking clue what type of match you like in current wrestling stro. Wouldn't shock me if you hate it or like it :manny:

Thought Naito/Tanahashi was much better than Omega/Okada, but generally like Okada a lot. Like Shibata a lot as long as he isn't doing his headbutt shyt. I feel like I'd be pretty satisfied with Shibata beating the shyt out of Okada and then a goofy overly long finishing stretch.

There's more more things you are gonna like than dislike about the match then. But you will find shyt to feel :francis: or :ld: about. Check it out.

been saying this all year long. Nothing against Okada/Omega but I just felt that Naito/Tanahashi was cleaner match with stronger storytelling

Even though I enjoyed the hell out of Omega/Okada....I'm starting to realize the gem that was Naito/Tana. Like I said in a previous thread a while back, Tana went to the darkside to get on Naito's level. Dude was playing dirty the whole time which wasn't of the "Ace". The match had better storytelling as well. While Omega/Okada was THAT match...Naito/Tana was the better match.

Update regarding Katsuyori Shibata’s condition
Katsuyori Shibata was taken to hospital due to poor health following his main event match on April 9th at Ryogoku Sumo Hall. He was conscious and able to communicate while being admitted to hospital.

After a medical examination, he was diagnosed with subdural hematoma and surgery was conducted as part of his treatment. He is now recovering following a successful operation.
