Eh, fukk it. I'm going to see how long it takes me to get banned on PWO. They're seriously saying that people that don't like lucha are racists and have negative views on Mexico as being poor and gross, as if that's the only reason not to enjoy midgets dressed up like Ewoks and ninja turtles doing arm drags and comedy spots.

:dead:

I didn't take it as that. But it's the inevitable "how can we make this a bigger conversation about wrestling and culture, because we HAVE to find answers that are complex and have a deeper meaning" argument that a lot of poster love to have over there. Specially dudes like Dylan, Matt D and Parv.

If you wanna get banned quick you gotta make a lot of threads with "controversial" takes. Like 2 weeks ago there was a guy that lasted like 4 days :dead:

What is controversial there? Saying wrestling is supposed to be kind of dumb and isn't a serious endevour? Lucha is kind of dumb. It has weird internal logic/bumping/selling that doesn't really exist in other parts of the world. It also was much easier to get tapes from Japan in the 80s/90s than from Mexico, and outside of the cruiserweights in WCW, the crossover between America/Canada/Japan wrestling has been far stronger and more pronounced than that of America/Canada/Mexico.

It's pretty fukking easy to see why puro is respected more than lucha in online circles, even if you disregard taste. Dudes coming in there like "Well, wrestling fans think Mexico is poor and dirty, while Japan is cool and stoic" or "white people love Mexican food, but hate mariachi music, because even if they don't realize it, they have racial and cultural biases".

Mother fukker, some people like metal. Some people like rap. Some people like country. Some people like all of them mixed into some chimera of noise. Those fukks need EVERYTHING to somehow be related to race/religion/politics/economy/some deeper philosophical truth. Dawg, you're watching men in underwear fake fight, you fukk. It's not serious.

I'm reading a bit of that thread and it is utterly bizarre that the guy complains about Dave liking the wrong TYPE of lucha. It's not enough to make him watch but he has to like Virus! PWO has such a thing with Big Dave, like there's a massive thread on everything the man says. We have fun with his newz and scoops and whatnot but there seems to be a kind of resentment at him over there. he's to blame for more fans liking Tanahashi than Black Terry! Who gives a fukk.

Your takes on Flair are enough to get people there thinking that you are trolling. If you really wanna get banned that's a good start :pachaha:

I agree with you in regards of that thread. My reasoning for not liking lucha has nothing to do with any of the shyt they are trying to imply. And I'm latino and have waaay more cultural connections to Mexico than Japan :heh:

The Dave thing is about narrative. One thing those guys resent - though they'll NEVER admit to it - is that a big part of the IWC is influenced by what Dave says. So him liking some sort of wrestling, or reporting or a type of wrestler instead of what they think is the best, fukks them up.

The lucha thing is the best example. "People don't think much about lucha because Dave never thought much about it. And when he praises it it's the kind of wrestlers that aren't that good". Which is a crazy argument.

I think it all boils down to a very simple thing: people want their tastes to be validated by the majority or by opinion leaders. Something I can understand, but that it seems people are ashamed of feeling that way, so they just come up with some reaaally overcomplicated theories that try give complex answers to something that doesn't need them.

I went to the site and opened the match of the year thread. Dudes were creaming their pants over a lucha match Trauma I vs Canis Lupus.

I watched the match and it was weak. 3 stars maybe, strictly for the blade job and finishing move

I'll give those c*nts 5000 words on why Ric Flair is not only the most overrated wrestler of all time, but why he wasn't even that good of a wrestler at all, and all of his "great" matches just so happen to be against guys that were much better than him and led the match.

So random, but I loved dude at Fanasticamania, hope he returns next year.

Parv's reaction is gonna be interesting. That dude was obsessed with Flair being as close as objectibly the GOAT wrestler to the point he made a simple Bret Hart vs Ric Flair thread into a 40 pages disaster (even worse than the lucha thread) and made like 5 1 hour podcasts about it :heh:

I completely disagree with you, I fukking love Flair, but :manny:

These are the same kind of dudes that will find a 3 minute Bill Dundee vs Onita match from Memphis in studio from 1981 and write 5 pages of introspection about how INTELLIGENT and SMART and great the match was, how it's better than anything they've seen in years, can't believe no one ever talked about it. Then you watch it and it's literally 3-4 punches, a nerve hold, some chokes, and a DQ.

I'm gonna let this here and watch it later. Reading what they wrote there this must be amazing:mjgrin:

There is something about a grimy, sleazy, low rent looking, bloody Lucha brawl though :wow: The clips from this match look awesome

I guess Black Terry is in his 50's and here he is rolling around in stones outdoors in front of 300 people. Love that shyt :heh:

He's REALLY good. This is a borderline classic

*clicks*

*fast forwards to the start of the match*

*listens to 2 minutes of commentary*

*turns off*

I'll never, for the life of me, understand how lucha announcing is so fukking unbearable and awful when mexicans and latinos in general are the fukking GOAT at commentary on any fukking sports. How in the name of fukk do we end up with the worst of the worst in the most colorful activity of them all? :why: :francis: :sadcam:

I'd probably be one of them. Give me Lawler throwing 57 punches, 1 body slam, 1 failed suplex and 2 piledrivers while driving the crowd insane over most of what wrestling has to offer :ohlawd: :blessed:

I'm interested to know how Lucha commentary is so bad :heh: I'm glad I don't understand it anyway :obama:

You can check that Black Terry vid, no commentary!
