Genichiro Tenryu & Shiro Koshinaka beat Tatsumi Fujinami & Satoshi Kojima in 13:28. Almost the entire match aired on television. Very stiff work and very much a brutal match. The idea of the match was to break Kojima's nose and then he'd get all fired up before losing. Tenryu kept kicking him hard in the face, and both Koshinaka and Tenryu were throwing hard short punches trying to hit the spot and what made it brutal is he took about five punches and two kicks before the nose finally broke. It turned into one hell of a match, particularly with Kojima selling and making comebacks. When Fujinami got in, he used both his dragon sleeper and brought back the old mangigatamae (octopus submission) on Tenryu but Koshinaka saved both times. The crowd was really into seeing the old moves and seeing the old legends, Fujinami and Tenryu, using those spots. Finally Koshinaka hit Kojima with a butt bump off the top rope and Tenryu used a lariat and power bomb on Kojima for the pin
You can watch it on your IPhone by just going to the NJPW website on your phone. Works fine for me that way.
Usually the champ will drop a couple of matches during the G1 to set up title defenses the rest of the year, now with the Dome shot on the line I don't think we'll have an IWGP champ win the whole thing again.

Thought this was an interesting review in the latest classic Observer posted:
Imagine going into a match knowing a couple of dudes are going to break your nose
Marilyn is a cosplaying, pole-dancing, NJPW superfan, and oh…jeepers…haha, whoops, just about lost my grip on my kinsey scale rating for a second. Wrestling and burlesque have had a long relationship, even today with places like Lucha VaVOOM and Lucha Britannia. As a fellow enthusiast of dressing up like dude wrestlers (and doing a fantastic job of it), I’m pretty sure she might be my new favourite lady on the internet. Check out her Shinsuke Nakamura themed-act, and try your best not to fall in love
You know when the kojima match took place?
ThanksDave was reviewing the May 2nd 1998 TV show (not sure what date it actually took place). IVP have the show:

Can't find the match online unfortunately.
Looks like the dude who uploads the shows to dailymotion got SamuraiTv filing TOS violations on his videos.
