This is not new. Most of the times a big executive (that in Japan tends to also be in ring talent) leaves a promotion and has intention to stay in the biz, they take a couple of wrestlers to join another company or start their own.

It's common practice basically. The last two I remember are when Akiyama left Noah for All Japan (and took Go with him) and when CIMA left Dragon Gate and took all of Stronghearts with him.
