That’s great to hear! Do you think she’ll drop it this year? What were your thoughts on her last album, Unbreakable?
I think she’ll drop this year.
I love Janet so I’m kinda biased. I love it more now than I did when it first came out. I feel she should’ve went more along the lines of No Sleep for most of the album. The first half is great. The second half is sluggish. I hope on the next album she cut the tracks to 9/10. People don’t put out those long albums anymore.

What makes it an anamoly?
Maybe as far as r&b goes but during that time period r&b was mainstream.
Like I stated, plenty of other albums during that time sold just as much. Below isn’t even the entire list. It wasn’t unheard of for artist to have big block buster albums like that during that time. Confessions was HUGE though.

10. 1997 – Shania Twain – Come On Over – 33,500,000
15. 2011 – Adele – 21 – 30,140,000
18. 1997 – Céline Dion – Let’s Talk About Love – 29,800,000
27. 2002 – Norah Jones – Come Away With Me – 23,900,000
32. 2000 – Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP – 22,900,000
38. 2002 – Eminem – The Eminem Show – 21,400,000
41. 2000 – Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory – 20,800,000
42. 2015 – Adele – 25 – 20,410,000
49. 2000 – Britney Spears – Oops!… I Did It Again – 18,935,000
59. 1999 – Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication – 16,270,000
60. 2002 – Avril Lavigne – Let Go – 16,220,000
61. 1998 – Madonna – Ray Of Light – 16,000,000
63. 2008 – Lady Gaga – The Fame / The Fame Monster– 15,820,000
66. 2004 – Usher – Confessions – 15,500,000
68. 2000 – NSYNC – No Strings Attached – 15,300,000
70. 2004 – Green Day – American Idiot – 15,250,000
72. 2006 – Amy Winehouse – Back To Black – 14,900,000
74. 2000 – Enya – A Day Without Rain – 14,430,000
80. 1997 – Spice Girls – Spiceworld – 13,950,000

Look at this list, how many other R&B artist do you seen on there, I'll do you one better, how many other black artist period do you see on there?

Yeah, I feel the same way. “No Sleep” was my shyt. It had the classic, smooth Janet feel. Album was cool, but would’ve been even better if it had more of the vibes of that song for sure. She always has songs on each album that I vibe with though.

Confessions was NOT an anamoly. There are plenty of other albums that sold that amount during the late 90-early 00s. Plenty.

For an R&B album to go Diamond in the 2000's, Confessions was indeed an anomaly.

Beyonce's female equals in terms of sales during that same time period have been exactly who??

Adele.
Rhianna
Lana del ray
Nikki Minaj
Taylor Swift

That's some field shes up against:laff:

Janet went up against prime Whitney, Madonna, and Mariah. These women were out here selling 10's of millions of records. Not only that, but they were all across the board huge.

That’s debatable lol

Anti sold 600K, put up one of the biggest singles of the year. Lemonade sold 1.5, entire album charted (breaking Taylor Swift's record and becoming the first female to chart that many songs), Grammy nominations for album of the year, outshined Rihanna's big moment at the VMA's.

In terms of significance, Beyoncé's performance of "Formation" had cops so shook they were refusing to give her protection in fear the song incited violence against cops. There visual album was discussed and dissected more so than any Pop or R&B album since maybe Confessions.

@Kerkum

Did you witness the slay? Everybody is saying it was too short. But it was good, otherwise.

Time to prepare myself for that tour.
It was everything and more. Especially the Segway into the “IF” breakdown. So much precision, you’d forget the video dropped 25 years ago. The crowd couldn’t get enough, she’s truly back after a fall from grace (ala nipplegate) I’m excited to hear the new music, I know she’s in a good space creativly

So as I stated, do you mean an anamoly in r&b?
To say it’s an anamoly in itself is incorrect. It’s not. It’s HUGE for an R&B album though. R&B was pretty huge at the time.

Janet’s albums have always been r&b rooted pop with experimental sounds. I like the black eagle song. I like the one where she samples baby Michael and I love love the first track. I didn’t care for the Missy song though.

You're not going to count streams?

I mean Anti is still in the chart now, Lemonade is not.

You'll counter that Lemonade isn't on Spotify.

I'll counter with the milly+ albums given away for free.

You'll counter something else

I'll dance and keep it moving knowing it won't end.

I'm just curious, looking at those numbers. Was Anti considered a failure? Or are the low sales due to the Tidal thing. Then again Lemonade dealt with Tidal fukkery too.

It’s because of the Tidal thing. Granted Rihanna has always had lower American album sales compared to her worldwide sales and its vice versus for Beyoncé

But the leak and the lack of promotion for Anti fukked it up. Then she didn’t release a video for one of the most popular songs on the album that was always performed on singing competitions.

And you are wrong. Beyonce actually broke Spotify records, so even if you count streaming, Beyonce still doesn't hurt:

Beyonce, Drake & More: Top 5 Largest Streaming Weeks for an Album in the U.S.

And even with the streaming numbers included Lemonade is still bigger than Anti.
