True story, a few months ago, a wite guy on my street was telling me about medicaid.
He was shocked I did not have any programs. Like really shocked.
Was telling him how much I pay for internet.
He was explaining to me the things medicaid pays for and other ways to basically live totally free.

I honestly had no idea, medicaid was like that.
TRUST ME, poor folks the world over would love to have medicaid, housing, food stamps etc etc

Feel like when African and Caribbean immigrants compare their culture to ADOS....they're really comparing the best parts of THEIR OWN culture to American 'hood culture which isn't that different from white redneck culture (substance abuse, babies out of wedlock, violence, lack of educational opportunity etc).

It’s things like this that makes me quick to correct any Black folks here that say they have no culture or no contributions to the world. Carter G. Woodson alone gave Black folks here an edge over Black people in other parts of the world. Not just being close in proximity to racism but coming up with the intellectual and collective tools to combat it. Caribs ain’t have these things nor did Africans or Afro Latin, European, Asian folks. And that to me is part of the wide gap in race consciousness.

Just think, Marcus Garvey should’ve been venerated as a hero but that took years. People like Kwame Ture and Walter Rodney made huge contributions to the struggle but it has taken decades for their respective countries to acknowledge them. Despite the many great challenges faced here in America, Black folks made many of the tools to fight back. When there’s honest and even exchange things go well.

It’s when people come from that intellectually colonized tradition, and that can happen anywhere with any Black person or any background, that you see the type of ignorance we’re seeing in this thread.
