Always confused the hell out of me, because growing up in the South, in areas that aren’t so urban, I as a Black American, have culture and home training. Problem is, you have other Black Americans, ashamed of themselves, their families, their culture, their ancestors, all while hating the black folks around them, spouting this nonsense, and then others outside pick it up and start spouting it as well.

I seen a common theme with the traveling community that you gotta be “patient” with foreign black places. Then they try to gatekeep and say things like “[place] doesn’t need people like you” or something about your “American mindset”. And they lecturing the fukk out of black Americans even tho their returning countrymen do the same behavior but no smoke. Black Americans apparently don’t like bad service in Latin American countries either, and no one is patient with poor BA’s coming up. They don’t understand we treat other Black Americans with shoddy service the same way as well, we argue about it the most with each other. Yea there’s a difference but being the first born in America my family always had that clear distinction between “black Americans” “yankee Gyal” and calling them cruff for being here their whole life and not advancing

I do notice there’s a different culture when I started dating girls with American parents but I wasn’t tripping because I am American but when you get weird looks for taking of yours shoes at the front door, saying good night , knowing how to be independent

My best relationships were with girls who parents are immigrants because even though you weren’t born there you still get the culture(assuming they grow you right and have you visit Jamaica)

TLDR- growing up there always been the sentiment about “Yankees” and not wanting to deal with them.
