both of those guys entered the league and immediately started winning. i mean they were basically in the finals every year.

Very true. And it would be fair if you did so. But, to me, Jordan's, Russell's, and Kareem's standards were those to which Magic and Bird had to live up. Jordan, Russell, and Kareem created the traditions and Magic and Bird were expected to carry on tradition.

Duncan is one of the best power fowards in league history. Top 5. As a center he is pushed out of the top 10 altogether, so putting him against Shaq is unfair in terms of his best role.
He is only a force at center now because the centers now are softer by comparason.
A top center from back then or before like Ewing could devestate the whole game now, and Shaq was the last of those type of centers. Even a center that would of been considered softer back then like Vlade or Kukoc would knock the new age Duncan/Howard type centers around. So its really just an era thing. Like the way Kareem couldn't keep up physically today with the speed of the game.

Yes and no. There is more wear and tear on players now, but there are better ways to amemd it via better conditioning. The faster paced teams like OKC and the Clippers that would wear Kareem out. He'd still be as good, just more exhausted.
