Ja Morant takes a shot at the media’s apparent MVP-bias for Jokic (“it’s obvious [who] they want”)

What the hell are you talking about?

The campaign for Jokic's MVP season last year was the quietest in recent memory, and this season it's even quieter. He was a forgotten man for half the season. It was all about Steph, KD, DeRozan, Embiid etc before it was even about him. In relative comparison to MVP campaigns of the past, there's barely been any noise for him, at all.

The Ben Taylor-NPCs who dominate the social media side of basketball have Jokic as the clear runaway favorite for MVP and could care less about his teams record, when just earlier on in the season they used it to justify having Steph as the MVP-favorite despite his near two month long shooting slump

There’s a clear agenda here for Jokic because he’s on the verge of becoming a 7 seed and yet his position in the MVP race has yet to drop

no he's saying that the media already decided who won MVP a while ago and instead of letting the season play out till the end, theyre just using every jokic game as a confirmation that they're right while ignoring the rest of the field.
And how is this different to any other season? Why is this suddenly a problem now when the media have always operated like this? The voters have never let the season just play out. They’ve decided well in advance by latching themselves onto a narrative and let confirmation bias take over.

This is how it’s always been. And don’t speak like the rest of the field has been ignored when there’s been a handful of names pushed for MVP throughout the season well before Jokic’s name was brought up. I vividly remember when it was a two-man race between Steph and KD in the first third of the season and Jokic was performing arguably better than both of them and yet folks weren’t even paying attention to his play. He was quite literally forgotten about. Then it was DeRozan, and then it was Embiid. They noise was louder for them before nxggas even started putting Jokic in the frame.

seeding doesn’t matter anymore I guess :mjlol:

Kobe got robbed when carrying smush and co…now the argument is flipped.

embiid carried sixers to the 3rd seed by himself. Got a flabby harden and is 1.5 back from first

booker not getting any consideration is :scust:

I've just never understood the Kobe was robbed argument. Westbrook is the only player in like 40 years to win it as a 6th seed, and I didn't agree with that either. Media had stars in their eyes over his trip dub average. If he put up 8 and 8 he wouldn't have gotten it. If people say Kobe should have won it, then maybe we need to look back at other players who put up big numbers on mediocre teams and say they were all robbed too.

Well, for starters, the “Ben Taylor-NPCs” don’t get to vote for MVP, so it’s largely irrelevant to use what they’re saying as a reference point. Furthermore, why are you acting this is some new shyt, when folks change the measurements for who they think the MVP is every season and during the season too. All narratives are different and all narratives have a different set of criteria to which they’re created and judged upon. You forget how the voters didn’t care that the Thunder were a 6th seed when Westbrook won MVP, all because of the emphasis they put on the historical significance of averaging a triple double? Why even bring up Steph? He fell out of the race long ago even that narrative ran out of steam and was replaced by others. Again, that happens almost every season. Not every narrative for MVP marries up with how a player is performing. It can take time for it to reflect what’s actually happening on the floor. There’s no grand conspiracy at play here.

There’s always a clear agenda every season, again, it ain’t nothing new. But the agenda is all based on whatever the hell the consensus of the voting panel wants to believe in.

I'd take Kobe's 2005-2006 season over at least 10+ other seasons since, yet he wasn't qualified for it because of the lack of "team success".

These end of year sports awards have become the Grammy's/Oscar's. Agendas everywhere depending on who.

If they want the award to be as objective as possible then they need to establish a standard such as either the best player on the #1 seed or go purely by some combination of stats and stick with it.

hes right about the history of the award, but just because that used to be the standard doesnt mean that was right or that it has to be that way going forward. if anything a lower seeded guy winning it gives more credence to your position that kobe or lebron got screwed when nash was voted mvp in 05-06. the award should go to who had the best season imo.

the problem with using the lower seeds shouldnt win mvp argument against jokic is he has been on the floor for more wins this season than every other even remote candidate except for tatum and booker.

Ja isn’t even advocating for himself so I don’t know why y’all are shytting on him:mjlol:

he’s trying to say that book should at least be in the top 5 mvp candidate conversation

though if we’re keeping it real, based on team records and all that- the mvp convo should be something like: Giannis, Embiid, book, ja, and curry

This is literally how Curry was awarded the 2015 MVP when Harden put up the better stats that year, but now all of a sudden the criteria has changed
What the fukk do you mean the criteria has suddenly changed? Every single season the criteria is different. You can’t judge how the MVP was awarded back in 2015 to a season 6-7 years later. It changes every season.

You ain’t slick either. Don’t think I don’t see this is all about your agenda against Steph.
