YES!! They were very close. I found this out from his uncle Herm. I was in Atlanta at a show and I was talking to her and I swear to God he told me, "you remind me of Proof". He said his nephew was quiet and Proof was the loud playful type. This was prior to youtube being the standard for finding old music and I had no idea they were close. They actually did an EP together. It's crazy that all of those guys in detroit was in the same circe, but we never saw D12 collaborate with Dilla or black milk and Elzhi. But Royce has worked with them all.

i was talking about collaborating after they became mainstream artists. Proof and dilla did an EP. I know that.

They went under the name of The Funky Cowboys if I’m not mistaken.

That's nuts, Trick Trick was around proof too as I saw on the hiphop uncovered series and of course proofs was close to Em too.

The book also showed that Dilla and Jazzy Jeff hung out and that Jazzy Jeff was a big Dilla fan lol.

100 pages left. Book is amazing and the first couple hundred dealt with all the music stuff. About halfway in is where it starts getting heavy :mjcry:

Dude had an outside child. I'm at the part where Joy left, shyt crazy. Also lmao at him grilling Kareem Riggins for stealing his style.

Sidenote:I wonder what Dilla would have did if he was still alive musically? Would he have played with trap music or any of that shyt but his way? I mean he did love the strip club so maybe that would have been a source of inspiration for him.

Even though I hate trap music due to the over-saturation of it, there is some great trap music that uses chord progression and creative sampling. I can't get with the same drum sounds, 16th note hi hat patterns, and 2-finger piano melodies under wack rhymes and singing over autotune. I will never be a fan of that shyt til the day I die.

let's talk about it. The book has been out since last year. Anyone that hasn't read it yet, it's their own fault hahaha. Shouldn't take more than a year to read 450 pages. That's on average of 9 pages a week. And this book isn't boring if you're into hip hop, production, and history.

I hear you, I got the book by way of the libby library app. They had the audio version and I was on a wait list for months just to hear it lol. I'm really enjoying getting into audiobooks and am building a little library but back on topic.

Man I don't even know where to start.

First off we all need a friend like Maurice, he held Dilla down heavy.

Then I hate Egon, I don't know why but I feel him forcing a a jaylib part 2 when Dilla was very sick seemed cash grabby to me a little bit. No wonder Dilla used to curse him and peanut butter wolf out. He also tried to push him into working when he was sick as fukk and didn't back Ma Duke up in her issues with shoes.

Speaking of what do you think about the beef with Ma Dukes and house Shoes?

To think he may have actually had AUHS and if he lived to 2012 he could have lived longer due to medical advances.

Lastly,Common always had a cold one. Can't believe he had Taraji Henson at Jay Dilla's funeral. I realzied now his game, he be pump and dumping them chicks. I don't think he ever wanna wife them, no way none of them relationships don't work out. He just get really busy and neglectful on purpose or some shyt to end it but he act like a nice guy lol.

Yeah I feel he could have pushed it further if he chose that route but who knows. Maybe he would have stuck with boom nap but if he did trap it wouldn't be no simple shyt.

Even Madlib played with trap recently in his work with Gibbs.

Where I shouldn't be
To me, the best hiphop producer of all time! Loved the entire Labcabincalifornia so when I found out later he produced it, plus his work with The Ummah and SV it blew my mind. So glad my son know his beats like 1070, Players and Earl now, plus the original samples.

i have hated House Shoes since the day I read that shyt. I remember years ago when it happened. So what his mother is pimping his music out.. It's her son and there are bills to pay. I'm glad he got the shyt slapped out of him. I hadn't known that part haha. I hate that Herm's donut shop had to be closed down. Herm is a cool dude. I haven't talked to him in years. I got his number from that show and I haven't spoken to him in a while. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't like that the author put out personal business about the abortions and domestic violence.

The way House Shoes gatekeeps Dilla's legacy has ALWAYS been corny to me. The combination of him being one of those overzealous "real hip-hop" white fans and one of Dilla's close friends is lethal :mjlol:
