The reviewer doesn't decide the score at P4k.

And it is retarded to compare arbitary scores between albums. Who gives a shyt, i'm sure you rate some albums higher than I would too, and vice versa. Doesn't mean i'm gonna totally dismiss all your other views.

Some people just don't fukk with Cole's music like that.

Ya'll can try and force into existence this album as a classic but we'll see how many people come back to this by the end of the year (or summer for that matter)
Not saying this is classic by any means, but I think my point about P4K stands. They champion what their audience wants them to champion. Most of their core readers are the "J Snore, NyQuil" folks who would rather listen to Yachty. That's cool if that's what he thinks, but there is also a massive following that likes Cole for being himself. It might be boring to some, but it's relatable to others. Some people just want to hear a regular guy rap really well, no frills needed.

I agree that 7.5 seems like a fair score. Now that you mention it, how do P4K scores get tabulated then?

It’s very close . His closest. I can see both sides. But as said I earlier , he still hasn’t dropped a UNANIMOUS classic yet .
What are the unanimous classics of the last decade in your view? FHD is clearly a classic and I’m not even a big fan of the album. The Beyoncé style abrupt rollout wasn’t a thing in rap until that album. It connected on a major way with people, the tour was insane...and all without crazy singles.

I respect the fact that Cole could have done anything after that and decided to go left with 4YEO. Similar to what Kdot did after GKMC. And despite that he’s still big, each album has had a huge tour etc.

They need to put The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights on streaming services. I’m walking around with the livemixtapes app on my phone :pachaha:

Him and Kendrick need to do this shyt ASAP.

The Kendrick Lamar EP needs to be streaming in FULL. Not that neutered bullshyt they have on their now.

And Cole a few years ago actually toured performing The Warm Up in full. I don’t know WHAT he’s waiting on.

The P4K review is on point and Alphonse Pierre is a good writer. I'd have bumped the score up to 7 or 7.5 but I just find Cole's music to be too self conscious in trying make "great" music, like there's this desperation to be considered legendary without the music to back it up. It rarely feels organic.

Like a good example to me is his lyrics on Let Go My Hand. He talks about not be a tough kid but winning some fights, losing some and it's just so generic to me. Like he's going for this personal reflective song but there's no personality to it. It feels forced and inauthentic.

That's my problem with him. He's a good artist who thinks he's a great artist.
Generic is the best adjective for J. Cole. I've felt that way about him since he came on the scene. If there was a coloring book for rappers on how to rap, that's what J. Cole is. Everything is by the numbers, by the book with no flair or flavor.
