My personal favorite song is My Life. Love the line where 21 Savage says he kills someone and sends their mother a teddy bear cause he has a good heart.

Played it in the whip, and while I do like Cole rhyming on here, I skipped a few tracks.

intro
Amari
Interlude

Are boring songs and I think that Lil Baby is overhyped as fukk.
None of those songs are boring

the intro and 100 mil are the most upbeat songs on here

I love how he opens that verse

“Say What?” :what:

good post. you know what man, i have always said that if we were still operating on pre-2003 standards cole would have been best served as a member of a group, either a duo or trio. you come off like either a cole hater or grumpy old man when you say this but my perspective is shaped by being gen x no matter what so they can take that for what it is. he can rhyme but he's not a soloist period. for instance i love camp lo but wells, were we ever pining for a geechi suede solo joint? or were talking hip hop outside fat beats like damn man when dice raw gonna finally give us a 15 joint debut? nah and both them nikkas are nasty!!! lol nasty yeah but not soloists

but the era is different. way different. so cole is exalted as being nas adjacent and it's like oh word? word? word? nah he's middle of the road b. let's stop the madness

EXACTLY!!

He's crazy on posse cuts. Because he can rap and he can play off of people well. But he doesn't have enough soul to carry himself to greatness without others around. I support every project, but still feel like dude's taken his entire career to figure out who he wants to be. MCing isn't just being able to rap. Monch was talking about this once. He said, "You can rhyme all day and be dope, but are you moving anyone with what you're saying so that it sticks with them when the music is off?" Cole is a cool listen. But he's just not on the level of these MC's that have that thing that keeps them in rotation forever. He's definitely a middle-ground artist.

Ok I'm ready after nearly a week to say this is his best album for me.
This admittedly is coming from someone who doesn't rate FHD as highly as a lot of people tend to do.

But this here :ohlawd:I don't see it coming out of rotation the rest of this year for me.

It’s a W especially whenever you match the first week sales of an album you dropped 8 years ago (Born Sinner did 290k too). Longevity.

Makes me curious what Drake and Kdot will do first week though. I’d imagine close to double.
KOD did 397K though.

This a step down :hubie:

I listen to J. Cole and I enjoy his music. Why is he being compared to Nas? Damian Lillard is a great basketball player. One of the best doing it now but should he be compared to Michael Jordan? That's what it's like comparing J. Cole to Nas. Being one of the best doing it at a certain time doesn't automatically make you legendary.

J. Cole isn't missing anything he's just not a legendary rapper and that's fine.

Fair point. If the other two guys sold 100k less than their previous album it would be a Coli topic. But those guys play the game (singles, videos, media, etc) and Cole doesn’t. Would this have done 300-350k if they dropped a real single and video before the album? Possibly.

Possibly but we just have to be fair because we already know the other two will be compared to their previous efforts but I actually agree with you
