the prequels were to star wars what:

the wizards years were to michael jordan.
the post-dangerous era was to michael jackson.
the tna years were to hulk hogan.

goats are goats... and their declines never made us forget that.

the prequels just kinda exist in a vacuum now. all is forgiven. it's time to finally move forward now.

After a certain point people stopped wanting to see Jordan play ball though.

Like I said the first 3 are classic, and nothing will change that, but it's time to admit the series is at best on shaky ground, at worst needs to be retired. The last good "Star Wars" movie was 30 years ago. Any good will built up since then has been from the expanded universe, 99% of which is no longer canon.

Technically, the EU was never official canon anyway. it was implied canon.
Now its officially non canon... but some elements may make their way into the official universe

are you inferring that the hype won't be there for episode 7??? because that's what it sounds like.

that "good will" you speak of will last forever. it's the same reason jordan's game winner in utah is still commonly referred to as his "last shot" even though he played 2 full seasons after that. no one gives a flying fukk about the wizards years. you have to be reminded of them because otherwise it's like they didn't even happen.

Of course there's hype for the new films. Like I said:

Hopefully the new movies get the franchise back on track but it doesn't really matter much since the vast majority of "Star Wars" stans won't admit it ever fell off in the first place.

Fred.

"Star Wars" stans will support it no matter what. That's why the good will will last forever. Like I said anything else that hadn't been hot in 30 years would've been abandoned long ago.

Lastly, you can't pick and choose to ignore certain parts of a legacy simply because they're negative. The Wizard years happened, just like the last 3 movies happened. Luckily what came before the fall-off was enough to solidify the legacy, anyway. But you can't rewrite history and say it didn't happen. Let's say the next 3 "Star Wars" movies suck....are we gonna sit here and say those never happened, too? Where does it stop?

Whether or not it was official wasn't my point. Outside of the first 3 movies "Star Wars" has been stagnant except for the EU for the last 30 years. So the novels, games, cartoons, etc. was the reason people still gave the franchise a life line. Then the 3 prequels dropped, were terrible, and we were right back to using the EU as a crutch for why the franchise hadn't fallen off.

If the next 3 movies are great, so be it. But if they're not the entire franchise is built on movies that came out 30+ years ago, and an EU that isn't even canon. So I'm hoping the movies are GOAT level.

we know they happened, but they are sooooo overshadowed by what came before that they're hardly visible.

I agree with a lot of what you said. The media that came along with the prequels was worth it though. Battlefront series, as well as the Clone War cartoons....which is probably some of the best Star Wars source material out there. The characters, and storylines in that series is top notch.

i have to agree, SW is so overrated. i think lightsabers are actually cool, but other than that, the SW universe is basically everything thrown in including the kitchen sink in terms of genre and cultural appropriation.

i totally understand why older people will feel some type of way, but i kinda feel like younger fans are just gassing it up because of how the older people revere it so much.
