Theaters aren't more dangerous than grocery stores. Nobody's shutting down the grocery store. Fearmongering. Socially-distanced cinemas are safe.

half or quarter filled theater sitting in there for 2 hours with the same recycled air...... have fun. That shyt ain't recouping.

Yup they had to recoup some cost, which is basically what WB is doing to all of 2021.

best believe in 2022 they'll reevaluate and move accordingly

they already said it's not a permanent thing. That's why I don't get why all these directors got their panties in a bunch. They keep popping shyt and no one gonna give them 150/200 million budgets after this shyt clears in a couple of years.

Look at it like this. You negotiate a deal where instead of eating up the budget on the front end, you take less money and bet on making it back off negotiated points on the back end. The company later comes back and does something to ensure the back end is 1/10th of what it should have been. You then see they paid another director and actor their money and then told you to kick rocks.

Yeah, there is no way anyone outside of corporate AT&T could have thought that was a good move.

I think they jumped the gun complaining. If Patty and Gal got some of their backend kicker bread upfront, I don't see why the others wouldn't.

And Nolan fukked himself pushing WB to put Tenet in theaters in the middle of a fukkin pandemic.

No other studio is going to throw 9 figure production budgets at these directors in the middle of pandemic if they get mad.

all them crying about the theatrical experience need to get with the program for the short term. the movies aren't exclusively on HBO Max. Those wanting the corona theater experience can still have it if they want.

I'm trying to recoup the best I can if I'm ATT/WB. Sitting on these movies for years until the theaters come back fully is retarded.

AT&T does not give a single singular fukk about any of them nikkas. They make $71 billion a year off their telecom business. The movie division averaged about $1.9 billion the last few years with roughly $900 million coming to them after splitting the total with theaters. So their calculus is as long as they get an extra 5 million subscribers x $15, they’ve made that $900 million back. If they get an additional 10 million subscribers it’s a huge win. Actors may have to take a small cut and movie budgets might drop but the back end profit sharing can still work. At the end of the day AT&T trying to move phones and phone plans. Movies are such a marginal drop in the bucket for them they could care less about pissing off Hollywood :unimpressed:

I do see their side of thinking that the vaccine and people feeling safe to go out is still a ways off. They do need to do a better job of marketing, hearing that around 28 million people have access to HBO Max at no additional cost, but only around 8 million have activated their account :skip:. Speaks to the fact consumers aren't aware of what they could be watching.

I wonder how much of this is due to the fact that it's still not available for Fire Stick and Roku users. As of right now, the only way I have access to HBO Max content is via PC and trying to stream it that way gave me so much hell I just stopped.

They are on Fire Stick now, with Roku being the lone holdout. Would be surprised if they don't lock down a Roku deal before WW1984 drops on Christmas. That should help with numbers as Roku is a major distributor, but I imagine a lot of older people have regular HBO through traditional cable and don't know anything about or understand the value of HBO Max as well.
