I have been expecting this to all go left and for WB to be sold to the highest bidder from the day AT&T bought them.

It will probably be Disney who ends up owning WB once AT&T decides to sell.

AT&T bought Warner Bros. for something like $70 billion. Not many companies have that kind of money to make that move unless AT&T takes a big loss.

They need HBO MAX to work and they have everything they need to make it work. If they fukk it up at some point then everyone would need to be fired.

They should have secured more distribution before launch the Amazon and Roku deals should have been done beforehand. And I think just history and being in bed with all the cable companies prior is hurting them as well. People especially older people are used to experiencing HBO one way and aren't interested in moving to the new way and coming out the gate as the most expensive didn't help either.
Netflix is just synonymous with streaming. 'Netflix and chill' is a thing. And although they are raising their price they kept it cheap for a long ass time. For years the price was like $8 and you got a lot of fukkin' shyt. It's not impossible but it's an uphill battle for HBOMAX specifically to be like Netflix. It's a shame to cause the library is next level. Hopefully, AT&T is in It for the long haul. Giving it more time and a better effort would definitely help.

Roku will cave just like Amazon did. I don't even think that's an issue.

The only thing HBO MAX needs to do is work on the interface. 4K/HDR/Dolby is all coming this month with WW84.

Iron out the interface and it will be hands down the GOAT streaming platform.

Honestly... I'm having trouble finding shyt to watch on Netflix now :ld:

The Undoing and The Flight Attendant were big this month.

HBO Max Has Reached 12.6 Million Activations, AT&T CEO John Stankey Reports, With Engagement Up 36% In Past Month – Deadline

Also...

Asked by moderator and UBS analyst John Hodulik about the blowback from Hollywood’s talent community and the exhibition business, Stankey said, “We’re all participants in a market that serves customers. The longer-term impacts are going to be dictated by what consumers wish to do.”

He said the move acknowledges “the reality of where markets are going right now” in the movie business. “Customers have a tremendous amount of choice as to how they choose to engage with content. If we just simply sit here and say, ‘This is about whether or not people go to movie theaters,’ I think we’re missing the broader point. Today, even before WarnerMedia made this decision, customers could go watch great, two-hour content on a variety of competitive services … some of them very significant releases. Customers are going to drive what happens in a market, ultimately.”

As to the post-pandemic world and whether studio release patterns will return to some semblance of the previous ones, Stankey said the company will “adjust and work the model differently.” Overall, though “having choice” will remain a constant, he predicted. “We’re not putting one over the other,” Stankey said of theatrical and streaming. “This to me seems like a very friendly and innovative approach.”

ATT took on a butt load of debt with the deal and are still doing cuts till this day around it.

I mean I hope so, just saying should have been a done deal @ launch so people have easy access.
Yeah, improve the interface and overall speed and it definitely be the best.
Netflix has a lot of dope shyt but way more bullshyt compared to HBOMAX.

My brother and law and sister still don't understand what max is despite my efforts. They have a Samsung TV and pay for hbo but his attitude was why do I need it? He has hbo and buys all his movies on VUDU. Hopefully this power move will cause them to realize that it's more than just hbo. #marketingfail

It's everything on HBO, plus its own original content and a huge library of other shows, movies and documentaries. If people can't get that simple explanation, they don't want to get that simple explanation:yeshrug:

Would Cinemas Be Hypocritical Playing Warner-HBO Max Films After Netflix Rebuff? – Deadline

Kind of a clickbait title since it touches largely on a broader context of the playing field theaters have how to respond to this move. But it basically re-confirms that the end goal here is pushing crowds to HBO Max, and theaters are not in a position to boycott WB films (like they do Netflix, Amazon, etc.) because that would only fasten up the process. Plus of course the fact that theater chains have been hit so hard by the pandemic that any bargaining power is lost in their necessity to bring in cash of any kind.

This move definitely spells out the end of movie theaters, and probably have HUGE effects on Hollywood.

Doubt we get big money blockbusters when studios cant even break even on production cost.
Probably the end of movie stars either. Big blockbusters make stars and if this model succeeds we wont be creating any new stars.
