Theatres cant make Warner go down on their sinking ship. They have no legal standing to do anything other than take the scraps. The only reason that Warner is doing a theatrical release of any kind is due to the contract stipulations with the talent like the Gadot issue. If they didnt do a theatre showing, they are susceptible to litigation because of the money in the contracts being tied to box office numbers. If they as a company chose not to do a theatre release, they could get sued for collusion, undermining the contracts. But since they are still doing theatre releases along with the HBO rollout, those contractual obligations are met because the box office still counts. Talent is just mad that they have to compete with for streaming numbers against their box office numbers. The fact is, no movie that was going to be released solely at the box office was going to do the numbers needed for people like Gadot to get those backend/bonuses. Every movie is flopping and will continue to. They were never going to make that money to begin with. This is just a tactic to try and get paid despite the fact. Warner has too much money tied up in this to settle with talent just for PR purposes.
Them nikkas beat. HBO's flex will not falter.
