This move definitely spells out the end of movie theaters, and probably have HUGE effects on Hollywood.

Doubt we get big money blockbusters when studios cant even break even on production cost.
Probably the end of movie stars either. Big blockbusters make stars and if this model succeeds we wont be creating any new stars.

Movie theaters will be back. There is no substitute at home for that experience. NONE.

The problem is they are fukked for the time being and the time being is at least 2 years IMO.

Theatres cant make Warner go down on their sinking ship. They have no legal standing to do anything other than take the scraps. The only reason that Warner is doing a theatrical release of any kind is due to the contract stipulations with the talent like the Gadot issue. If they didnt do a theatre showing, they are susceptible to litigation because of the money in the contracts being tied to box office numbers. If they as a company chose not to do a theatre release, they could get sued for collusion, undermining the contracts. But since they are still doing theatre releases along with the HBO rollout, those contractual obligations are met because the box office still counts. Talent is just mad that they have to compete with for streaming numbers against their box office numbers. The fact is, no movie that was going to be released solely at the box office was going to do the numbers needed for people like Gadot to get those backend/bonuses. Every movie is flopping and will continue to. They were never going to make that money to begin with. This is just a tactic to try and get paid despite the fact. Warner has too much money tied up in this to settle with talent just for PR purposes.

Them nikkas beat. HBO's flex will not falter. :ahh:

It's everything on HBO, plus its own original content and a huge library of other shows, movies and documentaries. If people can't get that simple explanation, they don't want to get that simple explanation:yeshrug:

They should've just called it Warner "streaming" on something. Causal folks just hear HBO and think that's it. My fam had no clue it has the warner catalog and the hbo branding doesn't help. Not to mention it's pretty expensive compared to everything else.

Most theater locations are probably dead sadly.

The theater experience is overrated unless you're at a nice one.

Most AMCs, Regals, Cinemarks aren't dumpster fires tho. And you aren't getting huge theater screens at the crib. Also, cats wanna get OUT sometimes.

Shiit you must got it good then:lolbron:

You're aren't getting your pockets raped at the crib either, theaters aren't raising those concession prices for nothing and many are upgrading with addition dining/entertainment options and that was before the pandemic. There are plenty places to go out to, best believe if folks can stream some big time movies at home they'll do that instead. No coincidence that hollywood is nervous about this.

For blockbuster movies that have captured the buzz of the movie going public the best place to see it is in a crowded theater, it adds to the experience.
I'm looking forward to seeing Wonder Woman but I am also annoyed I won't get the crowded theater experience. That movie was made to be seen in a crowd.

these short sighted delusional fukks just don't get it.

Theaters ain't going back to the way they were pre covid for a couple of YEARS.

Easy to pop that shyt when you not the one funding the making of the movie.

So release in theaters ONLY in covid where the fukkin numbers are SPIKING here in the states and lose shyt tons of money or do both and try to give people options....if they want to take a chance with their health. :dead:

Theaters aren't more dangerous than grocery stores. Nobody's shutting down the grocery store. Fearmongering. Socially-distanced cinemas are safe.

So are Theaters still doomed? :sas1:

Disney still has a vested interest that they remain around for at least the next couple of years.
