Nothing will change. This is a total PR machine move by everyone. No matter what, it won’t change. They have no leverage or footing to stand on. The fact is theater companies may very well be bankrupt by the time any of these titles release. Any theatrical release will bomb. They won’t any backend money from a theatrical release. Complaining about WB taking a payout to release it on HBO because “it’ll hurt movie sales” is asinine. If it isn’t in HBO, there will be no movie sales. And since actors and directors are already paid regardless of the movie flops, distribution will ensure they make their numbers. Litigation will go nowhere. Backend incentives are not guaranteed contractually and as long as they get a theatre release, there’s likely no legal action to take given the circumstances.

Yea they got no options outside of streaming. Too many movies completed or in the pipeline for when theaters do open up back to normal if they ever do. They all won't be able to properly get released in theaters so its either streaming or get shelved.

I'm just a humble poster and not a lawyer, but I think WB might be in trouble since all the releases are going to their own streaming service.

It's not like they outbid for all those movies. They are essentially self-dealing.

Give all your talent box office revenue deals then expect them to sit by silently when you cut down the theatrical release, Warner brehs.:mjlol:

I could give two shyts about all these millionaires crying about not making more millions but it's hilarious to see how little effort was put into thinking about the consequences of this move.

The only winners of this move are the talent of The Witches who received compensation for an "expected" box office revenue that the film was never ever going to make.

Foh. Us stans saw it. But stans or the hardcore in any hobby are not the ones that move the needle and bring in the $$$, rather the casual consumer/mass audience.
The only thing I was mad about concerning the gawds move would be the petty princesses would use the gross against him. It is what it is everyone knew it would do poorly.

However, They’ll be first in line to see the next Nolan event like everybody else. It’s amusing.

Just read that Warner Bros has also attempted to play hardball on the contractual agreements and terms with local theater chains here regarding the planned release of Wonder Woman 1984 next week. So now theater chains are boycotting the theatrical release of WW84 unless WB agrees to the old terms.

They're mad because WB gave $10M to Gadot and the director on some sneak shyt, when the other stars have big movies that will be affected by this move as well.
I'm sure AT&WB will just give them the same compensation they did Gadot and dead this whole "controversy".

Good breakdown, highlights:
  • Warner didn't consult talent or production houses because they didn't see it as a negotiation which talent/production studios would try to do. This was going down and they didn't want someone from Legendary or someone like Nolan going public before the announcement.
  • This was also rushed to set precedent before the Disney investor meeting this week. Balls is in Disney's court now. Will they follow suit or do something else?
  • The back end deals for the movies will probably have lower thresholds. Before you saw a % of the back end at a certain box office number they will probably lower that number to placate talent. Might not work tho.
  • Production companies suing will likely lose since Warner is honoring the deal and releasing these movies in theaters. The simultaneous stream release is fukking up the paper and Legendary in particular may have some ground to stand on since Netflix offered $250 million for the Kong movie and Warner media blocked it.
  • Theaters might threaten to boycott but have little leverage since not a lot of studios are releasing movies so if they want some content they can't afford to boycott.
  • This is really revealing AT&T bought Warner solely to create a Netflix competitor. This will all be worth it if they can build a streamer that generates revenue close to or at Netflix levels. That could be hard since Netflix is available almost everywhere internationally and HBOMax isn't near that yet.
  • If at some point AT&T doesn't believe this long-term strategy of being the next Netflix isn't going to happen they will likely sell of Warner content in pieces to the highest bidder and disolve the studio.

Get down or lay down!
Thats what Beans would say!
“See, we need to make it where they ain't no competition. We need to move on em. Push them out street by street, block by block. That's what Beanie Sigel would do”
