He is not a tough placement, because he killed his category hands down.

He went from Byrd Gang/Dipset to Coke Wave w/ French Montana to just being Wavy.

You don't kick out that many songs with so many memorable moments without being a rare talent.
Agreed, he is a very rare talent. He killed his lane and is the prototype for a lot of these "singing" rappers.

But his category is difficult to place with the rest of hip-hop. Wavy is it's own genre almost.

Singing rappers? Like Future? or Rich Homie Quan? No way.

He was street rapper, he made no candy cane music at all.

He can get grimey.

He can hit you with somber music that makes you sit back and reflect. Dame Grease and Harry Fraud makes that somber production like no other.

Or he can slaughter a street single, that would even helped Jim Jones get over the hump and no longer be in Cam'Ron's shadow. .

Yeah I mean the rappers that can "sing."

I agree he didn't make any candy cane type music. I don't mean it like that. I just mean the whole style of combining singing and rapping

And he never did an official song with Fraud (just that one remix), but he does have the somber music down

can someone give me his top 3 or 5 releases? thanks.

youre never gonna get a str8 answer to this.

he put out alot of tapes in such a short period of time, which caused his stuff to be spread out. i dont think he has any definitive tapes.

youre better off rockin with an unofficial collection mixtape or something. those were always the main max tapes i rocked with, even before he got sent up.

So he doesn't have a definitive release? I've been wanting to get into his music for a while, just didn't know where to start

not really. hes more of a collector's edition rapper. i'll let others chime in on that tho.

he released a ton of music within like a 2-year period. dude was literally making music for his freedom, it seemed(contract/prison).

i think that may hurt his legacy a bit in the long run, even tho he couldve easily put out 2 or 3 classic tapes with the material he had.

I write this with somewhat of a regional bias because nikkas outside of the Tri-State can never fully comprehend what Max was and his movement. Many of us from NY, NJ such as myself and CT are able to understand and see where Max was headed because we saw it with 50. We saw it with the Dips. Its a certain aura and building in the streets where we can just tell that a certain artist is on his way to greatness, possibly KONY status. It aint no coincidence that people are still praising his music years after his incarceration. His contribution to the game from merely mixtapes is the stuff of legends.
