What you said is true....however that also applies to your hiring process and staff makeup.

We got a new new black VP some years back....I asked someone who worked in corporate comms about him....her exact words "dei" hire.

Before him there was only one other VP that was black and she was not in IT.

Now is he qualified?...from what I hear and see yes
And that's really my issue. Saying someone is simply a DEI hire without highlighting their qualifications sounded like some fukk shyt to me.

The unfortunate truth is that stigma is inevitable with any kind of affirmative action. If you're a beneficiary just get your bread and do a great job. The latter may erode the stigma years down the line. Maybe.

Oddly, it seemed to come from the small segment of members who don't seem to take formal education seriously.

I 'm thinking your comment about Bernie Sanders was sarcastic. He would have gotten trounced. People who support his ideas seem to suspend logic when the topic of his electability comes up.
They had to drag Biden out of retirement because he was the only Dem. with a practical shot at beatng Trump. Otherwise Donald would be completing his second term now, and likely trying to bend the laws to remain in office for a 3rd.

Luckily all of the data is still up. Bernie was projected to win by wider margins than Hillary and it wasn't close.

He was going to do better in critical swing states and especially in the Rust Belt where Hillary lost Obama votes. Bernie would have inhereted those Obama working class voters whereas they viewed Hillary as a centrist with corporate interests.

Ask any older person before AA how they looked at the few Black people in white collar jobs or managerial positions. Were they walking around saying "gosh, he must be exceptional since he is one of the few Black folks here". No, they would resent and still make up stuff to disparage you. Talk to Black kids going to school in the UC system or UT system? They seen as equal and loved and respected since there is no longer admissions affirmative action?

There is no affirmative action for Black people in sports. However, remember how during his brief stint on ESPN Rush Limbaugh claimed McNabb got good coverage because he was a Black QB? And people (even John McWhorter) defended that statement because of the vague existence of affirmative action elsewhere and White people want to 'help out' Blacks succeed. That was almost 20 years ago but etched in my mind the fact they will still come at you even WHERE NO PREFERENCE EXISTS.

It is sad yet hilarious that people think that the end goal of this is more respect or approval of those of us who made it once affirmative action is gone. Once it is gone all you will see is their true colors.

Not at all...but they are in place to satisfy a quota

People need to stop saying quotas. SCOTUS struck down numerical quotas almost 40 years ago. Nobody legally can have a fixed quota for DEI but they can recruit and expand the field to try to fill a certain role.

Additionally, this is why it's so important to interview your company before you decide to take the job.
When you're in a job interview you need to be asking yourself if that's a company you'll be comfortable working for.

When you got a good company/team, nobody going to label you things like "DEI".
I would not be comfortable in a company where there are people who use that term.

Stop settling as soon as you can.
