Question....
.....How come your selections never come up in the universally accepted classic list convo along with Chronic/ Cuban Linx /Ready To Die/ Doggystyle.....
......But u bring them up now?
when were those songs not considered classics?lmao at those being classics
Jean grae is overrated internet chatter. If she was something, she would of rose up and atleast ran the streets.
She never did and i'm not big on excuses.
I checked her out and was bored by her. Not saying she cant spit. But her music is nothing special
She's like a female Talib/Canibus, not gonna be everybodies taste to get love like that across the board but I fukk with her. Easily top 5 female lyricists.
when were they classics?when were those songs not considered classics?
Not a straight hip hop album though so holds no weight.
What about Latifah's first one?
a song has to be a single to qualify being a classic?when were they classics?
Both of them were not singles, right?
That's not what i'm saying.a song has to be a single to qualify being a classic?
when did this start?
Black Reign was dope too
I really don't think there's a such thing as a universally accepted female rap album though
Depends on your region/taste IMO
Heads from the East would probably pick something like Dirty Harriet, Foxy's second album, Hardcore, or Lyte's greatest hits
Southerners would probably pick Mia X's Unlady Like
West Coast cats would probably go with Conscious Daughter's 1st album, Boss's album, or one of Marvaless's albums
Underground heads would probably go with Jean Grae's Jeanius
Battymen would probably go with the Pinkprint
I'm fine with calling any album on this list a classic
So salt n pepa, lyte and Latifah can get the nod from me. But I also agree that no album from a female rapper is truly universal or on the level of, or really anywhere near, something like The Chronic.
