Its crazy how there's only 1 universally accepted classic album from a female rapper,

He ain't white...

Now back on topic:

You consider these albums rap albums?

Bush
The Love Below
808s & Heartbreaks

those are hip-hop albums just like Miseducation. Why? Because they are marketed as such.

Every album u posted has the description "hiphop" in their bios. This debate is getting old.

She sings and raps
I grew up in Lauryn Hill nikka I've listened to all her shyt a million times
She not always singing and she raps a lot
Not as much as most rappers but thats cause most rappers can't sing

I grew up on L Boogie too and I probably got a couple years on you. One of the first rhymes I wrote was to this song.

And again, I bought Miseducation the first day it came out. You won't see me deny it's impact, I even debated someone in this thread about how said impact was undeniable.

But yes, how much she was actually rapping on that album does matter when comparing it to great rap albums. It's one thing to do like Phonte and simply substitute yourself for hooks that would usually be saved for a featured singer because you can carry a tune, it's another to drop an album that is majority singing expecting people to rate it along side rap albums. It would stick out like a sore thumb on a more honorary type submission.

I didn't ask you what their bios say, what they were marketed as, or if they were "hip-hop" albums:

I asked you if you consider them rap albums.

Like i said a million time it was marketed and targeted to the hip-hop audience. All the outlets selling the album this very second say hip-hop. The damn record label promoted it as hip-hop @JustCKing posted numerous hip-hop articles acknowledging it as hip-hop. Like i said previously her singing put the album in the category of being 'next level' or alternative. The Fugees were already marketed as alternative hip-hop.

Kanye West said:
This is not hip-hop music. Taking a sample, looping it and doing all that 'throw your hands up in the sky’ thing has become such a cliché. Hip-hop is over for me. I sing, not rap, on this album. - Kante West on 808's and heartbreak

You would have a leg to stand on if people actually mentioned Fergie having a classic album which is the overall topic. That album isn't a classic in any genre. Stay on topic and focus on what falls under the title 'classic.'

How we go from talking about marketing and promo to "let's just stick to classic"

full

The leg I'm standing on says that Miseducation is about as much of a rap album as The Dutchess, yet you wouldn't compare it to Food and Liquor or any other rap album for that matter, regardless if it was considered a classic or not. And before you try and skirt around the issue of saying "I said Hip Hop, not rap"

:comeon::stopitslime:

Fool its the only female rap album ever brought up.

I maintain that it's not a rap album and is therefore exempt from being compared to the likes of Reasonable Doubt...especially as the lone example of a female rap album that can contend with other classics when it would stick out like a sore thumb.

I guess we need a Fergie - The Dutchess appreciation thread then

:mjlol:

:stylin:

Big difference between Fergie and Lauryn. Fergie's album wasn't winning any Hip Hop awards from the Hip Hop community. She doesn't have any MC's commentating on how she influenced their work. She wasn't getting covers for being the face of Hip Hop. MC's were ranking her among the greatest lyricists. Hip Hop fans weren't viewing her in that light either.

Miseducation is much more of a rap album than The Dutchess and has been compared to other classics. XXL gave Miseducation a classic stamp. It won Album of the Year at The Source awards against It's Dark and Hell Is Hot and Hard Knock Life. Lauryn Hill had songs that dominated the rap charts, Fergie didn't.

And it's not an album that's exempt from being compared to the likes of Reasonable Doubt. Anything that's classic, original, and worth it's weight is supposed to stick out like a sore thumb.

What does Miseducation not being a front to back rap album have to do with it being a universally accepted classic hip hop album?

00000000000000000000000000013727as someone said

its barely even really a hip hop album to be real

she raps on what 5 out of 16 tracks

i get why its grouped as being a hip hop album but its a big reach

honestly the 2 albums from a female rapper that can be argued as an actual HIP HOP ALBUM and billed as a classic from a female rapper

would probably be lil kim hardcore and foxy brown ill na na

those 2 albums are easily the hardest hip hop albums from a female that both had mass appeal and underground appeal with street and radio singles etc...

personally i think id go hardcore just off the strength of "drugs" and queen bytch

but fox with the promise and the chase

can switch it up depending on the day
