Its crazy how there's only 1 universally accepted classic album from a female rapper,

I think MC Lyte 'Eyes On Me' is the best female rap album ever. I actually may do a Lyte run. I do the first 3. Gets spotty for me around Ruffneck but even that album had a few cuts.

I damn sure wore the first 2 Salt N Pepa albums out too but they seem childish now. Hurby Luv Bug and his damn shakers.

Female rapper releases a GOAT tier album and doesn't even get a mention at the Hip Hop honors show specifically themed for the ladies...how sway?

Yet every website that carries the album says 'Hip-hop'/rap music in the genre category.
So Who am i gonna believe?:russ:

Hey check this out, doe:

On this same site, it says for Miseducation:

Genre: Hip Hop
Style: RnB/Swing, Conscious

and for the previously mentioned Jazzmatazz 3, it is:

Genre: Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk/Soul
Style: Jazzy Hip Hop/ RnB Swing

...so really, according to them, it's not out of bounds to call both albums "R&B".

Sleeper pick:

Heather B - Takin' Mine

Super duper sleeper pick:

That nasty, stank bytch Choice from Rap A Lot who dissed all the cussing rappers of the day for an entire album over extremely funky, pre G Funk impression era beats.

1. Jazzmatazz was a neo soul album.
2. Tical wasn't grammy nominated or the "doggystyle" of that era like Miseducation was...:mjlol:

Bottom line is, the most respected authority at the time on rap music reviewed the album as alternative and didn't even rate it as rap, yet I'm white and somehow out of the loop for wanting to follow the same logic and not sit this on the same shelf as Ready To Die...nikka please...

The shyt was about as "Hip Hop" as 411 or any Badu album, in spirit only. The shyt does NOT warrant comparisons to great rap albums.

Yet The Source awarded Miseducation Album of the Year like they did Ready To Die.

I got major respect for Salt 'N' Pepa...but I can't ride with all of the mentions for Hot, Cool & Vicious in here.

Salt 'N' Pepa was a singles group...up until Very Necessary. I'll listen for anyone making a case for that album.
It had 3-4 big singles, and it sold crazy units...

Uh...you gonna have to show me the receipts on that.
I was checking The Source around the time this came out, and I don't remember that at all.

EDIT - matter fact, around this time The Source wasn't even picking a particular album
of the year. As I recall, they used to pick like the best 10...

The 1999 Source Awards awarded her album of the year:

I swear for the life of me ya'll are reaching mentioning Lil Kims Hardcore when La Bella Mafia was her best album. :snoop:

Here's where you got it fucced up - we not talkin' about "best", we talkin' about "classic".
Those are two different things.

I agree that La Bella Mafia is Kim's best album, but it ain't a classic.
Hardcore is a classic - it is seminal. The rap game would not be the same without it.

There's notable Hip Hop albums that weren't rated. They didn't give a mic rating to All Eyez On Me until 2002. I'm not sure if they even rated 7 Day Theory at all. They rated Nas's Lost Tapes in the alternatives section too.

Note how Lauryn wasn't honored.

I proved his point?

Wtf are u talking about?

:what:

Dude said nikkas today know Biggies verses and i posted a video proving him wrong.

U quoted me talking about nikkas not knowing Biggie lines. How the hell did u just change the quote ? What does quan not knowing Biggies verses on an award show have to do with that same award show not honoring Lauryn or Foxy?

Those r 2 different things fool.:mindblown:

So Foxy isn't hip-hop either since she wasn't honored as well:camby:
