If beds are available, they should sleep in the shelters paid for and provided by the city. Only issue is how do folks know what shelters have beds available?

They go to the city's municipality and inquire. If the city doesn't have shelter, they contact the county. If the county has nothing available, they contact the State.

Some of those shelters go over capacity and don't have enough beds for everybody. So people are going to get thrown out in the streets regardless due to lack of availability of beds.

How are u gonna fine a homeless person 1000? :mjtf:

exactly. these symptoms of society will never be alleviated because of dumb shyt like this

although, its never been a crime.. Vegas has been one of the many cities throughout the US, that will literally give you a bus ticket to gtfo if you're homeless..

alot of the homeless were being sent to San Diego via Greyhound, for years.. forgot the other cities, but when i lived downtown SD.. they had a huge issue with homeless folks coming down from Vegas, and other cities..

yeah i never knew anythin about this till about 6 years ago. i was findin housing for someone and low and behold came across the "ship em out" program where they was payin people to go to NJ and other states

That's only at the municipality level and they can't just 'throw you out'. If no beds are available there, the municipality contacts the County and so on up till they get to the State level.

Hell, when I worked at the shelter, we had to get police to escort people off the premises AND put them in a hotel room for at least a week.

If you cannot be housed in a shelter, there are ALWAYS funds available to put someone in temporary shelter (rooming houses, motels, etc.) until more permanent shelter is available.

and meanwhile you in the streets the whole time

realistically how many homeless people are doing what you mentioned? and mind u im speakin for myself for NY and NJ

its a horrible cycle of being in the street and not being able to maintain proper hygiene or contact information (email etc) and now you cant get a job or you lose your place in line becuz shelter close at 5

shyt is a sick trap

And thus sleeping on the streets is permitted. How do folks even know what beds are available and where?

im pretty sure they have this in almost every state.. if om not mistaken, if you dont have a home- you can pretty much ride Greyhound for free to wherever you need to be..

this is also, true.. was working with a older cat from NJ, who was homeless.. he would have to be back at the shelter at a particular time, or he wasnt allowed in without a written letter from us..

he also stated, that they'd often put him in a motel if it were over capacity.. i believe he said the only way the shelter wouldnt allow you to stay/find you a place, if they knew you were drunk or high..

When I read the title of this thread, the first thing that came to mind is that Vegas basically made it a crime to be Black!

I say this because we know that disproportionately, many homeless people are Black men and we also know that laws tend to be enforced on Black men much more frequently and harshly than any other demographic, so I think this so called law is a Segway towards creating another pipeline towards filling up prisons.

I guess I got my tinfoil hat on, but to fine someone homeless $1000 knowing that these people do not have the means to pay such a fine tells me that something sinister is being planned. How is a law going to fix a problem that was created by laws a customs that created homelessness?

Where The Grass Is Blue
Is the downtown area near the new stadium??
They’re on opposite sides of the strip....the stadium is behind Mandalay Bay

I figured they were gonna do this soon....homeless people setting up shop in front of apartment complexes were probably getting hella complaints from tenants

homeless are starting to drift into areas like Rhodes ranch and Summerlin, and with the influx of the poor comes the increase in crime. The combo of drug usage, poor with nothing to lose, and homeless just naturally brings crime with it. No one wants that on their doorstep. Folks are sleeping in parks and vacant lots in regular ass neighborhoods. Theft, home invasions, stolen cars all on the rise in those areas. women being attacked while out on late night/early morning jogs etc. folks don’t want drifters in the park across the street from their fam when there are beds to be had elsewhere. Also had that killer going around last year or so targeting folks sleeping on the streets beating them with a hammer while they slept. shyt just ain’t safe

Incorrect. If you go to the municipality, you stay there until shelter is found for you depending upon your last address. Each municipality has 'emergency funding' for occasions like this. If no funding/housing is available at the municipal level, the municipality contacts the County on your behalf. If nothing at the County level, then they contact the State on your behalf. In any event, you are not 'put out on the street' with nowhere to go until they find someplace for you. Doesn't matter what time of day/night. One of my duties was to go pick-up people from municipalities in my county and transport them to the shelter or to a hotel/rooming house/hospital. Some cats had been waiting for several hours until all their paperwork was cleared.

I'm in NJ and my philosophy is: If you TRULY want something, you'll do what you need to in order to obtain it. Problem with some of those cats is they don't want to follow rules and/or they have mental issues, thus, they are on the streets with no pot to piss in because they wanted to get high or get drunk instead of having a roof over their head.

Simple solution: Get your ass to the shelter BEFORE 5.

Its funny how you can be homeless all day near the strip but soon as you pass Durango it becomes a problem. I understand though people are paying good money to stay in those areas, the last thing they want is for homeless people to just come and set up shop there

That’s sadly the only time action will be taken. It ain’t an easy fix, but if there’s beds available making sure folks stuck in that dire situation are using those rather than drifting into residential areas or unsafe public areas like the underground tunnels/washes I don’t have an issue with
