When the Yankees had Roansy Contreras he was being developed as a starter.
Things did not work out for him in Pittsburgh and he's since been converted to a reliever.

That's probably how the Yankees intend to use him. I doubt he can be effective given his lack of command in the zone.
Contreras is a fastball/slider guy and I'm always skeptical of pitchers like that. Especially guys who can't throw strikes. Inevitably they find themselves in hitters' counts and that fastball is very predictable. And Contreras does not have a great fastball.

It would take some coaching to improve the fastball (if it can be done).

I don't think Allan Winans makes the opening day roster.

I agree with you. I just don't get what we're doing here, except blocking 40 man spots with very marginal roster help.

It's early and not my favorite projection system but Steamer has just 3 Yankees hitting over .250 next season.

Judge, Bellinger and Goldschmidt, with Dominguez right there at .249.

You can live with your corner OF/IF guys hitting for power and low averages.

It's really hard when everyone else can't hit and can't really homer.

I'm sorry but I would welcome Luis Arraez or Steven Kwan.

They need guys like that. The 2009 squad had just one guy (Swisher) hit below .270 on the year at .249 and he had a .371 OBP. The 1996 team had 4 guys who finished their career with at least one batting title and also had Derek Jeter in the lineup. Chad Curtis and Darryl Strawberry were the only regulars in 1998 to hit below .260 and Strawberry still had a .354 OBP and slugged over .540 that year while 5 guys hit at least .290 on the season with Bernie winning the batting title. Jorge and Brosius were the only regulars in 1999 to hit below .260 on the year as well.

Batting average always matters.

Sheeeiiiit, nothing to be sorry about. I’ve been wanting Arraez here for years despite whatever.

Is acquiring Kwan even possible?

I highly doubt Cleveland trades him here but Kwan and Arraez would be a great 1-2 hitter combo in front of Judge, Bellinger, Stanton, and Wells. Arraez is exactly the kind of hitter this team needs. Haven’t had a proper leadoff man since Jeter broke his ankle in 2012.

I don't know if Kwan is available.
And I don't want 9 slap hitters that hit .280.

But you need balance.
How many years of this crap are we going to endure?

Playoffs. Face good pitching. Everybody makes an out because they can't hit. And maybe you get an 8th inning HR so you lose 5-2.

Big whoop.

How many guys the last 5 years have been in contention for “statistically the worst hitter in baseball” into June or later on this team? Gary, Gallo, Higgy, DJ, Hicks, Verdugo, Volpe, Rizzo, and I’m sure 1-2 others. Meanwhile 2021 Stanton & 2024 Soto are the only guys besides Judge to hit .270 on a season and 2024 Soto is the only other guy since 2021 to post a .360 OBP on a season. That’s not a winning formula.

Making solid contact is at a premium in the playoffs....hitting a bunch of homers is nonexistent once October starts.

We failed in the WS because we failed at the fundamentals....defense, baserunning, and making contact. Cashman must believe power can overcome these clear flaws but time after time, it's proven it can't. You know the definition of insanity....

"We’ll try and get Dominguez up to speed in left," Boone said. "Bellinger probably in center with [Trent] Grisham in the mix there too. If Giancarlo [Stanton] has a day off or I want to DH [Aaron] Judge, I feel good moving Bellinger wherever. Ideally, I don’t want to move Dominguez as much.

"On a day G is out, Judge is DH, I can move Bellinger over [to right field] and throw Grisham in center and keep Dominguez in left. We’ll see how it all shakes out."

"Everson Pereira is back this year, he had Tommy John last year, I think he can play in the mix this year," Boone said. "And there’s always people that surprise you. You never know what can happen from a move standpoint in these next few weeks."

"Right now I would have Jazz at second," Boone said. "Then [Oswaldo] Cabrera and DJ [LeMahieu] and even [Oswald] Peraza are vying in the mix for that third base."

"He’s going to have that opportunity," Boone said of LeMahieu. "The reality is, DJ’s been an amazing hitter. He’s just been hurt. Hopefully, with some health, some of that bat can return. He can really defend and ... I think there’s a role for him, it just depends on his health."

"We’re very left-handed, so it just depends who solves that leadoff spot and if it’s one guy or one guy vs. a righty, one guy vs. a lefty," Boone said. "I would prefer one guy … a perfect world you love rolling them out. The biggest thing is trying to have a guy that is getting on base at a high level in that number one spot."

"Dominguez’s DNA is that because he gets on a lot and has power and can really run, too," Boone added. "That’s a positive. But he has a DNA that gets on while Bellinger and Jazz with their power and bat-to-ball, will play well in the middle [of the lineup]."

Forget the World Series for a moment. The home run or bust offense barely even results in a division title in a relatively weak division.
