Easier pill to swallow with Bellinger in CF. There will be growing pains for Dominguez, both in LF and at the plate. Hopefully, fans understand that and are patient. I would definitely bat him 9th to begin the season. We've legit only seen him at 100% for a few weeks in Sept 2023. Keep the expectations down. Maybe he lives up to the hype, but we don't need to apply more pressure.

Is he even playing winter ball anywhere? Hopefully in LF somewhere getting reps out there.

Also, we have Grissom as the 4th OF for a reason.
Yankees tend to not be as willing to let players play winter league as other teams do.

None of the Yankees "moves" mean anything to me :manny:
I get that thought process with Soto leaving, but there was nothing they could’ve done. He was always gonna sign the deal boras told him to sign and boras was only ever gonna go for $800+ million from the Mets. If Hal upped the bid to 15 years for $800 million flat, boras would’ve told cohen to go to $830-850. They should’ve gone all in to get him in 2022. Maybe with 2 and a half years on the team he’d have been too comfortable to leave or even signed without hitting free agency, but no amount they offered would’ve made a difference this winter.

I'm not even talking about Soto leaving.

The Yankees haven't proven that they can win a title in over 15 years, and I don't see them winning anything in the forseeable future. Cashman + Hal being at the helm don't inspire any confidence in me :manny:

I get that. It’s hard to overstate how much goodwill they burned from passing on Justin Verlander at the 2017 deadline, cutting payroll going into 2018, passing on Harper and Machado in the winter of 2018, cutting payroll going into 2021 (despite not having a catcher, left fielder, shortstop, centerfielder, a single lefty batter, and having 1 definitive reliable starter), and then every single move they made from the 2021 deadline through the 2023 deadline. I’m not sure I’ve seen any team in any sport waste a massive championship window as badly and arrogantly as they wasted 2017-23.

Like the facial hair ban, they need to move on from this stance. We already do a fairly crappy job of developing non-rotational talent. Supposedly, this kid has high-end talent. It needs to be developed and nurtured.

In this particular case, Dominguez hasn't played much ball in the past year or so. Now we're asking him to take over LF, which he already didn't inspire any confidence in last season. He needs to be coached, and he needs lots of reps. Waiting until February will just lead to a frustrating April-June period, at the least, out in the field.

I saw someone mention him as a potential #2 hitter in front of Judge. Based on what??? The kid needs to hit in the 8th or 9th slot until he proves that he can handle a more significant role in our lineup. He needs time and reps to develop.

asking him to man left when Judge didn’t even wanna do that is throwing him into the deep end of the pool.

The Yankees are paranoid about injuries (understandable) and believe whatever they work on they can do at the Tampa complex (hubris).

Now could Dominguez handle the top part of the lineup? The hope is he’s eventually protecting Judge. Some guys they don’t have to spoon feed. Either you can or you can’t. Look at Volpe. Killed it at first batting 8th/9th, then they moved him and we realized he can’t hit leadoff. He’s gonna face pressure regardless because he’s here and we’re convinced no young guy can make it here unless an act of God occurs.

Health is a legit concern. But Bellinger checks so many boxes for this team theoretically(LH bat, defensive versatility, athleticism) I don't know how anyone could hate this trade
He also missed time with a few broken fingers and a broken rib last year too. Between that and moving to a hitters park where he wants to play, I expect a big year like his 2023. He’s not old or signed long term either.

Exactly. And the last years, he's hit .323 and .331 with RISP respectively.

He's not Soto. But if he's hitting 2nd, I can see 40 HR's from him

30 with another 30-35 combined doubles and triples seems more likely. Post an average above .275 and an OBP above .355 with an .835+ ops and I’m happy.
