I am surprised this hasn't been done.
If they don't keep Gerrit Cole, I think all hell breaks loose.

Soto is most likely gone but if Cole is let go, Soto absolutely is gone.

And if the Yankees are looking at a 2025 season without Cole and Soto, then Judge would have to feel a lot of anger that the Yankees aren't committed to spending everything they can to win. Though to be fair...Judge is the last person to complain about anything on the Yankees.

You definitely make some great points although I guess I'd much rather just have a younger pitcher with less wear and tear than an older one but the safe option is to keep Cole rather than risk losing him and we all know that Cashman never takes any good risks. Although I feel like if we don't resign Soto we might as let everyone go including Cole but I know they'll never do that as our FO office is far too content to stay on on front side of the treadmill rather than start from scratch...plus we're not going to know Soto's future for months unfortunately.

I'm content knowing that this team is not serious about winning until cashman is gone.
to the bolded: that's what I'm saying.

Now, as far as starters, Gil might win ROY. That's a start. Schmidt is a good arm who needs to continue to build endurance. He's a Montgomery do-over. If we're serious about wanting young cheap arms, then Hampton needs to be protected at all costs. Can't say I love the other guys. I'd be stunned if Hess is anything more than mop up guy in the majors, so Cashman and the scouts aren't getting better there.

I like some of the arms we have as bullpen guys like Gomez, Beeter, Cade Smith. The bullpen isn't too far off as long as you like Weaver closing.

And FYI, the Dodgers are planning on moving Mookie to the infield

Hmmm I wonder why? They're going after Soto
I kinda doubt it. Even if they make a token offer, I can't see them having Ohtani defer all his money just to pursue Soto.

Mookie only went back to the OF cuz he got hurt. Besides, if Soto eventually becomes a DH the way everyone thinks he will, their DH spot is occupied.

I have a terrible feeling that Cashman's arrogance is gonna cost the team Soto :sadcam:

Judge walking would've been directly connected to how Cashman handled the process, some of his public comments, leaking the offer, etc

Cash really has no impact on the Soto sweepstakes, It's about a number on a piece of paper and Boras has a direct line to the owners that are involved. GMs are irrelevant when the bidding reaches these heights.

It’s entirely in Hal’s hands now. If he’s smart, he’s told boras to find the market for Soto and I’ll match or beat it.

Jeff McNeil and Nolan Arenado?

:what:

I actually think Arenado wouldn't be a bad gamble. His power is gone but I do like his contact ability and his defense is still very good.

As an individual move, it's not bad.

But you need a hell of a lot more than that to replace Soto.

Jeff McNeil doesn't fill any gap. He's lefty and maybe can hit homers in Yankee Stadium. He might also hit .230. The Yankees have already tried several players with that profile in the last 10 years.
