Beatles sound like they tryna be deep and different.
Great pop writers. What that means to me is u can pay attention to them and it’ll sound good, and u can put them on in the background and they could elevate the mood without being distracting.
But when you sit down and listen to the Beatles, u can hear how hard they’re trying.
But when u listen to Marvin it sound so effortless like it’s coming out of his soul without his permission.
And then it also sounds better in the background than any Beatles song.
When I’m in the grocery store and Marvin comes on, I’m floating thru the aisles. Dude is effortlessly psychedelic.
The question is not whether you like the Beatles or not.
The question is do you recognize their 1. technical and 2. artistic talents.
It's like when discussing Floyd Mayweather. Some people just cannot see that he is a technical titan or that has the best defense of any contemporary boxer. They instead interpret his skill as "running" (although the McGregor demolition might have helped some understand). Or they mix up his personal entertainment factor (for them) with his talent.
I don't think that the Beatles sound better than Marvin. I am far more likely to listen to Marvin than the Beatles but that is because of my personal taste in music. Marvin is not pop anyway
The Beatles deserve their place in the pop pantheon because they were better than most of their contemporaries.
