If you wanted to say you were relying on advanced metrics you should’ve said that. I’m not one of these anti-analytics dudes. I’m making the same point that Steph’s own teammate Draymond Green made. It’s nothing more than that. I’m well aware of “how stats work.” But thanks.

Shooting % isn’t remotely advanced though. It’s as basic a stat as there ever has been. Out of ___ shots this player makes ____. It’s like calling batting average advanced in baseball. No one who processes basketball with any real understanding could possibly see D. Book’s season as being the same as Steph. Book’s best argument is actually on his ridiculous efficiency in close and late situations this season. He and CP3 have been relatively flawless in the clutch.

Are they held in high regard by nba fans or posters on this board?

Yes or no?

:stopitslime:
Lol no one gives a shyt about what some dusty ass coli posters think. No one cares in real but some unhinged Kobe obsessed fans that write erotic fan fiction about him.

Embid had 3 more wins with a team that was going through intra locker turmoil, trade rumors, actual trades and moving parts as well. Embid was the center of Philly being able to win 50 games inspite of it all, while being the NBA’s leading scorer, while playing the traditional big role in a league that has been slowly going away from that style of play, while still getting Philly to a top 4 seed.

Do you consider this "narrative" or nah?

Embiid lost the MVP the second Harden touched down in Philly. Media gives out MVPs based on narratives, and they won’t give you an MVP with a player like Harden on his team. :francis:

This!

I been saying this for years. I have no respect for the award after Kobe only won one and when Lebron was cheated out of defensive player of the year during Miami's back to back run. Its all about narratives and who they want to give the award to.

One year they claim its about the best player on the best team, then its well its the best player in the league, then its the best player who was able to overcome injuries on his team, then its well can't give it to him he won too many and on and on and on.

I wouldn’t have given it to him this year due to their record…

If Jokic doesn’t win it all next year this will be remembered exactly like the back to back MVPs that Nash won.

I see this similar to in the 80s when Bird won his 3 MVPs in a row, then in the 2000s when the MVP was Nash, Nash and Dirk in a 3 year period. Next year will be similar with Luka (barring injury winning the MVP, so it will be Jokic, Jokic and Luka in 3 in a row).

I just really don't care for the award because the media changes the requirements every year for the past 30 years and so many greats have gotten MVPs taken from them cause the media holds grudges or cause they change the requirements from year to year. I wish it could go back where the players voted for the MVP (players voted for the MVP pre 1979 - 1980 season).

But yes this will be like Dirk and Westbrook winning the MVPs and getting beat in the first round all over again (in terms of recent memory).

So we're not even getting the results for another 2 months or so for all these awards.

As far as Kobe vs Nash, do you guys think Kobe’s rape case played a part in him not winning? That started in 2003 with the civil case not getting settled until 2015. Just even from a PR perspective, I don't think the NBA would want to deal with any fallout, since some still believed he did it.
