thought I bombed an interview a few weeks ago but the hiring manager hit me up today about a next steps. I screened with him right when all this stuff was popping off and we didnt know the extent of the pandemic but now im on the fence about doing any new moves with all this uncertainty ahead.

Full time WFH, they have handled it pretty well. Honestly, it's been a lot better for me. I work until 12:30 PM so being at home has been good.

Do you guys feel safe during this potentail recession? lol they can easily cut my ass and hire someone from India or Romania for cheaper.
I'm the lone Engineer left in my group the last guy quit 3 weeks ago. So no threat of layoff for me unless the company goes under. But that hasn't stopped management from increasing my workload. I guess they figure it's pointless to hire more help because they have a captive audience. Little do they know other companies are still moving ahead with hiring. While their poor planning led to the exodus of half the group over the last 4 months.

I've looked at Coronavirus news reports for popular outsourcing destinations like Romania and most are on lockdown. If things continue to worsen overseas a ton of multinationals might be forced to onshore work back to the US.

I don't think anybody should feel safe :francis:. At times like this, companies looks at the bottom line : Assets and Expenses :yeshrug:

You've value if you help them make money (Sales, IT Advisory, Account Receivables...) or keep shyt together (Sys Admins, managers...). If you're a self-employed consultant, you'll be one of the first to go:birdman:. If you're non-productive (they just don't like your ass or you just slackin on the job), they will get your ass out too :demonic:.

In my case, I'm in Cybersec Advisory and I had a meeting with my manager earlier, he told me I know you started recently but you need to bill as many customers as you can :hamster: and they are looking at what percentage of my time is billable:scust:. That's the kind of pressure he has coming from the top.

So here I am jumping on all type of shyt : Business Continuity plans, ISO 27001 projects, cloud security... As long as I can work on customers projects, I can help them make money. Sounds like I'm a bytch right :pacspit:. In times like this, you survive first and then figure shyt out latter

They were ready, it's jut that WFH wasn't seen in a positive way until they had no choice but to abide by it as the government here closed all offices for a month.

Man I always tell people we really do not need to be in the office for 40hrs a week and working remote fully has solidified my thinking. I am definitely taking full advantage of this shyt.

I feel ok at this point (blessed considering what others are going through). My company is in the health/tech space but I honestly dont know what to expect. Someone on my team is actually leaving the company entirely and another guy is joining another team internally. So most likely will get to pick up a project or 2 outside of network engineering. Coding based shyt with API's - things I already do dealing with AWS. Just more fluff on the resume at this point.

My last company was like that. If you worked from home other teams would be straight hating. Snitching and all that :what:. CEO talked about "we gotta be in the office to keep us glued together" :unimpressed:
Im like breh your a tech company how the fukk we cant work from home? :gucci:. Lucky my job now gave no fukks about wfh encouraging it in some cases.

I wouldnt be too sure. This whole crisis has had companies and governments giving second thoughts on globalism.

In what way?

What are the disadvantages from an employer's standpoint?

In the case of the pandemic, the virus is said to live on surfaces, so products changing hands from all over the globe isn't good for containing disease. With that said, I think beefing up sanitation efforts is something that will help. Spraying products down, using UV sterilization techniques or whatever.
