Software Engineer. Go to college, get that piece of paper, no certs necessary . In the grand scheme we'd probably look at each other's path to the starting line like , but we end up soaking in the same amount of knowledge as one another anyway.

Pretty much, there isn't only one way to skin a cat. Know a breh (he's actually a cac in Houston lol) that got his BA and learned Powershell front and back. Never learned any certs or bothered studying for any of them. Started off at Help Desk... Makes $200k/yr being an Azure guru now.
It probably isn't as bad as I'm making it. But I'm just don't meld well with those server or cloud tech. Plus when they moved from old Azure to new Azure, it was a pain (for me) to make that transition.
I'm also studying for the sec+, I'll take it next month.
For me, it's interesting and at the same time. I still don't get with all of these security controls, policies, and procedures how theses breaches keep happening. I understand that there will always be vulnerabilities, threats, and exploits and users error. The concept of Air gaps and how even that can be hacked from a remote computer. It also helps my understanding when I watch Mr. Robot. I know is going on.
This has been the hardest cert I have studied for cuz it's not really technical like the A+ and Net+. I've tried looking and videos like Prof. Messer and some udemy class. It's not working for me. I'm not retaining enough all of my practice exams are in the 70% range so, I went back to a book and Prof. Messer's notes.
What are you using to study? I'm using the online version of this book to practice the exam. It's free just register with the challenge question about the book and they will email you a code to access the site for a year.
Go to the second last page of the pdf and it gives you instructions to get the online version of the book.
I'm going to start reading CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-501 Study Guide by
Darril Gibson, people on youtube said its good.

Oh shyt good looks on that Gibson boom plug. I’ve heard that’s a great book for studying.
I’ve been kinda like you watching Messer videos and doing practice exams. I’d say I have 35-40% down but it’s A LOT. Encryption alone is monstrous, there’s so many parts and side parts and side side parts to Security. It’s interesting as fukk but it’s a lot to take in. I’m trying to pace myself and take a slow immersion route before I kick up the study intensity.
I think I’ll be ready by mid September but I was hoping to split my efforts between Sec+ and Net+ before starting my CCNA shyt but I might have to keep it to Sec so I don’t lose my mind. But if nothing else, I’m definitely going into Cyber Security it’s the most interesting field imo and it’s has the most demand/pay.

No problem, I was trying to do the CCNA and Sec+ and I couldn't fade it. So, I went with the Sec+ cuz I got a voucher from school. Yeah encryption us crazy along with hashing. Like how OS don't store the password in plain text it's stored in a hash and some add a salt to the hash to protect from rainbow tables The CIA triad is very interesting my next class is on pen testing. If you like pen testing or web app pen testing this guy channel is good. The Cyber Mentor

I got a voucher too but since I’m inbetween semesters I can’t take it til September 16th, I’m next program is on some ethical hacker shyt so I gotta do CCNA and some other shyt. I was thinking of knocking out Sec and Net before my first cert comes up next semester but that might be too ambitious. If I could just get Sec and these upcoming certs I can get Net on the backend.
Yeah the hash thing is crazy, and then there’s way different ways to use the hashes to add more security. Different levels of encryption, the shyt goes on and on and with good reason cuz hackers are fukkin vicious. All the IoTs that’s out there now makes security indispensable at this point. Damn near anything can be compromised by a threat actor.
@2Quik4UHoes it seems like you have a good understanding of those topics of the sec+ you got this. Good luck. How much school do you have left? This is my last semester, I wanted to get the CCNA before it expires since I killed myself taking 4 courses cisco academy 8 weeks for each class without having much knowledge about networking made me dislike it. Since now that I have my net+ I understand it cuz I wasn't rushing. My next cert after the sec+ will be either the Linux+ or the CCNA most likely the latter.
The IoTs thing scares me because everyday people don't know about security and patching exploits and segmentation of their network; along with companies abandoning obsolete devices, it's going to be hell out there.
