Kinda in a dilemma.

There's going to be a Network Specialist (basically a Network Admin/Server Administrator type deal) opening and I've been encouraged to apply for it, but I honestly don't think I'm qualified. Don't really have any specific networking related certs outside of Net+. What I do right now is mostly just a combo of Sys Admin/Desktop support.

I guess it won't hurt but I'm kinda scared I'll be in the interview like :skip:.

But then again, I guess I don't really have much to lose.

Is this a new company or promotion for your existing job? Companies are often willing to let you learn if they know/like you so I'd go for it if you already work there.

I got a job at AT&T as a chat support agent, it starts at 13.58 per hour so that's 28k per year. I don't think it's related to IT much but I'll study for the RHCE certificate in the meantime and step up my Linux skill.

A lot of people will look down at this role but take my advice and really put effort in.

Learning soft skills will help your transition into IT (it's a great job to leeway into a help desk gig)
All jobs after working in a call center (or chat) will be easy as shyt because they are extremely stressful.

It's the place I already work, so it'd be sort of a promotion.

Basically the person that previously had the position is leaving. My boss asked if I was interested in applying...I was kinda like :ld: but I guess I got nothing to lose.

Certs > degree? I'm very new to this thread and I'm thinking about a career as a web designer.

Hope some of yall studying for the CCNA have better luck with it then I did. Got it about 2.5 years ago hoping to transition into a network support/engineering type role working with switches/routers (I love that shyt :mjcry3:smile: but have had no luck (few interviews but nothing panned out). Fortunately for me, I've had steady employment throughout the years, so maybe that's led to a lot of complacency.

Planning to get off my ass within the next few months, and start grinding through cbtnuggets/gns3 in prep for the ccnp routing exam. Gotta have a valid cert on deck in case an opportunity pops up :mjplspinkie:

I got some family members eating well in the US. But that country ain't for me.

Got any IT experience? Employers tend to be skeptical of people with certs but no actual work experience.
Yeah, I have experience, but the job market here has been destroyed by a certain ethnic group with the certs out the ass. I remember seeing an entry level posting awhiles back talking about CCIE is preferred :heh:
