Can any of you experienced brehs elaborate on the work-life balance right now? The reason I joined tech and aiming for higher roles is because I wanted a great balance:mjcry:.
shytty answer, but it depends. I have terrific work life balance. In my years at this company less than 5% of the time have I worked more than 8 hours - in fact, I probably do less than 4 hours of work each day. I'm not a person that's high on the totem pole. Some roles and companies are the polar opposite though. I would hazard that large sized, companies that aren't hovering in the FAANG conversation will have a better work life balance. If you're a quick worker you can front load your tasks and then coast. For example I have 2 weeks to complete this user story. I'll have it done within 2 or 3 days, but they don't need to know that :yeshrug:. So I'll be on The Coli or doing something else to pass the time.

This indian guy on my team, let's call him Patel

saved his ass from the chopping block, because I vouched for him in a meeting with the our manger, sort of ... I just didnt want to throw someone under the bus I barely even knew.

Apparently the manager was privy to patel's incompetence and sensed that he might have bullshytted his way into the position. I didnt know but looking back it makes sense why he wanted to fire him.

fast forward 8 months later, it still the same ole shyt with him

  • Doesnt like to look shyt up for himself and expects to be spoonfed everytime he has an issue always trying to pass the buck to me because he has no confidence in his skills. so he want to use me to draw heat away from himself or risk being exposed
  • Has obviously been telling the other indian dudes that i'm a go to for answers because they've started that buck passing shyt too and contacting me suddenly when they never used to. Never spotlight me like that. big no no.
  • He doesnt do a proper warm handover of things that happened on the morning shift and just tosses shyt in my lap or tells me to lead in a meeting when I dont know WTF is even going on, no context or anything.
  • He does annoying shyt like jump from one chat to another to avoid talking in the main chat, because he doesnt want any attention on himself. Which would be fine if it was somebody else who wants to discuss something irrelevant on the side. Patel is just being sneaky and very obvious with it
  • Patel's been getting more brazen lately and I assume he's trying to increase his visibility to look more busy. He's been trying to delegate tasks and puff his chest out all of a sudden and I had to pull him into a call to more or less check him on it
  • He already pissed off the Principle Engineer by going over his head and CC'ing VIPs in an email, so that guys been gunning for Patel ever since. Dude's just a fukin idiot
  • No Patience and talks to the other indian team members like they are his kids and I had to check him on that as well, guess he feels comfortable lettin his nuts hang around them, but runs to me to bytch and moan about Seniors and principles being on his ass and giving him a rough time, He's basically like a prison bytch looking for a savior to keep him off the meat hook, but I aint squaring away no debts for ya potna, stand on ya own two and leave me out of it. I've washed my wands with this clown.
He doesnt know how to do basic A+ hardware shyt like figure out display issues with a monitor or change memory or install new case fans or applying thermal paste to a cpu unit. but he went out and bought a fukkin $1,200 tower server?

I once helped him install and configure Horizon and vsphere to set up his home lab, which he's supposed to know how to do at this point considering we are VDI engineers, IT is staggering how little he actually knows, but somehow he got the job.

I could be helping a breh on the road to 6figs 6certs, a brother who actually needs a career chnage to turn his life around. Had to catch myself . Never again. I aint sharing game with non-brehs ever again

they either downplay your advice like you dont know WTF you talkin bout or they use said game to only put their own on and shyt on you in return

I did him multiple solids in the beginning because I just naturally like to give game, but Patel been moving sloppy and doing himself NO favors, so when he inevitably ends back up on the chopping block again, sink or swim ...

I've noticed this combination of traits in a scary number of them :francis:

Made sure to pick companies with 100K employees because there is more specialization. We get to work from home despite the company forcing everyone back into the office. You normally are only bothered with really high level problems which leads to more downtime. At my last company they would literally bug us with tons of issues not remotely related to our job role. I quit after only 9 months rather than be oncall 24/7 damn near 7 days a week.

What did you think of the test? I dont know too many people who actually have taken it

It's basically an open book performance based test with your real enemy being time. You have access to a single tab of the official Kubernetes docs during exam, but if you try to use it as a crutch you'll most likely run out of time and fail. You have to know the material, only using the docs for reference manifests.

You also need to be comfortable in a linux terminal + some vim basics.

It's a completely different experience from your AWS/Cisco multiple choice drag/drop tests as it's 100% practical.

If you look on udemy.com, look for total seminars, they do video series over each subject and break it down to make it easier to digest.

They do sales like twice a month and you can get whole series for like 10-15 bucks.
I got it too, I was taking notes but my job is making calls all day from home. Been reading between the rings lol
