Do you really have to memorize all these TCP and UDP port numbers? That's more or less what I mean. Understanding the concept is more important than knowing the numbers because stuff like that can be referenced if needed. It almost comes across as this cert industry only exist to justify it's own existence rather than to show you can handle stuff because memorizing and regurgitating this stuff short term on a test doesn't prove much beyond your test taking abilities.

It really depends honestly, there are a few ports I think everyone should know what protocols they represent off the top of their head (80/443/22/53). Whether it's for an interview or not those ports are common and important enough that you will see them everyday. But I wouldn't expect someone to tell me which protocol uses tcp/1433 on the spot. I only know that is ms-sql because I setup VPN tunnels with that port open. All that shyt is googled on the job if i dont know it off the top.

Its very silly interviews become a game of memorization after awhile. Only a few companies truly ask you questions that test how you think.

I mostly google if I'm given tasks. Did it before for 2 companies while back.

Actually trying to get another job into the IT world as a side hustle. Got a cert in Technical Support Specialist from Coursera, its part of the Google IT package.

There's like 6 certs including Cybersecurity. Got a shyt load of experience in case I'm tested. Just not really adept in coding as besides building a Myspace Page and a Blog.

houston.
Since January three other project managers have quit at my company. We have about 20 PMs…each PM works on 5-6 projects. So all that work shifts to the remaining PMs.

I just started here in June and they’ve already given me 5 projects as the lead PM.

I’m trying to figure out why so many people are leaving in such a short period. After the most recent departure announcement, my boss messaged me saying “there’s a rumor a dept manager is leaving. It’s not true so if your hear anything about it, squash it” :hhh:

There’s something odd going at this place. Not sure how I go about figuring it out
I'll join your company :lupe:

Is it true you have to work harder at tech start ups versus established businesses?
Depends on the role and company. But the benefits often outweigh that because if pick the right one and they take off you can cake up for real.

Man... they finally approved my registration.. Been following this thread for a minute. Been working Help Desk at my gig for about 2 years now and I feel stuck on where to go. They made me get my A+ and I have to get my Net+ by September. They moved me to Tier 2 so I'm making like 60k now so I'm not too mad. Is Cloud a valid route to dive into?

Have any of you ever had to convince management to spend money on something? There's MDM software I want to use, but it's a lot more expensive than the alternatives. But learning it would help my career.

I haven't but if you can show how it creates value or saves money over the lifetime you might be in with a shout.

This article is so me right now, I've officially typed up my resignation letter I'm sending out in the morning, this shyt is not worth my time or the stress anymore:francis:
I quit 3 jobs in a row because they wouldn't refill vacant positions and expected the rest of us to pull double or triple duty. And I got a 15% pay increase and way less work for jumping ship. There is almost always something better out there but you won't know if you don't look.

Can any of you experienced brehs elaborate on the work-life balance right now? The reason I joined tech and aiming for higher roles is because I wanted a great balance:mjcry:.
