Now a recruiter is trying to beat my current offer,:leon: she even told me how people run up the overtime at this company for time and half for even more gains

Two days in the office tho, starting April...:lupe: 1 hour commute on the dirty MTA :scusthov:

I'm conflicted :noah: & I'll feel like an a$$hole reneging on an offer I already signed

I got two offers no I gotta think about:mindblown:

Salary position(earlier post)

  • Part of a small team on a startup, weekend and after hours support
  • only 10 days PTO, 9 personal days.
  • Remote
  • Bi-weekly pay
Contract ($35/HR|Overtime)

  • Remote but 5 days a month onsite in the spring.
  • Expected to be much easier work, we the first point of contact, part of a 10 person team with around 70 tickets.:lupe:
  • No weekend or after hours support.
  • No PTO :what:& 5 sick days.
  • Weekly pay:shaq:

That's what I usually hear, they said they really value W/L balance but who knows what they really mean by that.:yeshrug: It's a 4 person IT team helping about 100 users.

easy, take the earlier offer

  • smaller team, means you're going to get a ton of experience and wear different hats, which is going to set you up for your next gig
  • It's salaried, which means no submitting time cards and waiting for some incompetent jack azz service delivery manager to approve it at the last minute because he's out of office on vacation until the middle of next week, it happens.
  • 10 day PTO/ 9 personal days is better than the 0 you would get at the second option
  • 100% remote is better than remote with 5 days in the office
  • Weekly pay is preferable, but hey at least the checks look fatter every bi-weekly
  • Far as the desire for easy work, if you're doing enterprise IT (Working for a big finance firm or multinational company) there will be plenty of opportunities for 'easy work', so much fukking down-time that it's easy to get lost in the shuffle, because there are so many projects, meetings, infrastructure changes going on at any given moment, long as you are knocking out your fair share of tickets, no one will give a shyt about you.
  • Far as No Weekends or after hours support, I'd prefer that too, but do you even know if the 1st company expects those things from you? if its a team of four guys supporting a hundred end-users, that's mad small. After hours support typically means your working with end-users from countries with wildly different timezones like India, which is usually found in BIG corporations. the only way I see a team that small doing any after-hour or weekened work is to make infrastructure changes they cant normally make during regular production or business hours. E.G. network installations, server racking and stacking, cabling, patching, image pushes etc
  • IMHO, the 1st job is going to give you more experience to walk away with when you leave while also having most of what you want in terms of working conditions/benefits

Over the past two years I've paying close attention to hiring trends with companies and noticed

during the 1st quarter, companies tend to hire alot of entry level folks and hold out for the desparate unicorn; the over qualified experienced professional they can hire for for rape rates and shytty work terms.
They hike up the 'years of experience' from 0-2 years to 5-8 years or 3-5 years to 8 to 12. Another thing they do is Change job titles to make them seem like they are senior positions.....so many fukking jobs begin 'Senior" or "Sr" but when i look at the list of duties it's mid-level at best. In fact job descriptions in general are so redicuously written 80% the time, they are meaningless walls of jargon-heavy, word-salads and contradictions and its hard to extrapolate what exactly do they want or what the actual job duties. Also most are copy and paste.

Another thing I noticed is recruiters and talent acquisition people are downright sloppy and unprofessional during the 1st quarter. I'v had people inexplicably cancel interviews 30 mins to an hour before, call but dont leave voice messages, or get audibly mad that I didnt pickup on the first call etc etc., some dont even send emails and do this weird shyt where they send you a text message questionaire. lazy and suspect and alot of cases.

My first job in IT, I got it during the month of january. Since then every job I've gotten has been during June/July/ because in my experience, that's when jobs are the most willing to play ball in terms of salary and are more lax with qualifications. and it's been a stark contrast between job hunting during January to March and the summer months.

So if any brehs are trying to get into IT and dont mind getting exploited for their 1st job (Not saying you will) to gain experience , 1st quarter is the time.

I been waiting on a call to go over the results of an interview I did back in December since the start of January. Sent them a full week of availability, literally a full 8 hour work day of availability for the entire week. Nothing. My guy working there is like you heard anything yet :francis:? The reality is, the average person is average at their job, and we get stuck with the average recruiter. People just aren't good at what they do.

Since January three other project managers have quit at my company. We have about 20 PMs…each PM works on 5-6 projects. So all that work shifts to the remaining PMs.

I just started here in June and they’ve already given me 5 projects as the lead PM.

I’m trying to figure out why so many people are leaving in such a short period. After the most recent departure announcement, my boss messaged me saying “there’s a rumor a dept manager is leaving. It’s not true so if your hear anything about it, squash it” :hhh:


There’s something odd going at this place. Not sure how I go about figuring it out

Personally, I'd start updating my resume and putting out feelers, just in case
