Microsoft commitment to close security skills gap - Microsoft Tech Community

Microsoft commitment to close security skills gap
Security is at an inflection point as digital attack surfaces increase and threat attack sophistication escalates. Microsoft Security solutions can help customers reduce the impact of these attacks. However, customers continue to struggle to fill the security skills gap with an estimated shortfall of 3.5 million security professional by 2021. We strive to ensure customers have the skilling and learning resources they need to keep up in our world of complex cybersecurity attacks. By empowering our customers to increase their skilling knowledge, we enable customers to get up and running faster with Microsoft security and compliance solutions. We are excited to announce three new ways Microsoft is supporting skilling cyber security professionals.

First, Microsoft has four new Security, Compliance, and Identity certifications tailored to your roles and needs, regardless of where you are at in your skilling journey. To learn more about these new certifications and sign up to take the exam, please visit Microsoft Certifications.

Secondly, we recognize that the world and industry we live in is complex but growing your skill shouldn’t be. The Microsoft Security Technical Content Library will help you find content relevant to your own needs, regardless of experience level, topic, product, or job roles. Use the search filters available and start to explore content for you today! Visit Microsoft Security Technical Content Library.
I've cleared 2/4 of these so far: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals & Identity and Access Administrator Associate. I want the other 2 but I'm shifting my focus to passing the AZ-500 within the next two weeks first, then I'll double back.

In my previous job we had a tool that made our patching process simpler, in sense that we didn't have to login directly onto servers to patch. With the tool we could initiate the patches directly from a portal. It was my responsibility to research new patches, coordinate patching schedules, and initiate any patches for our servers. On my resume I listed that I was in charge of patching team related servers; in which I was. Well I received feedback from a recent interview, that the hiring manager doesn't believe that I actually was patching servers, since I leveraged a tool during the process. I obviously know how to manually patch a server, but why do something manually when you can leverage a tool to reduce manual work? I feel like dude is just nitpicking...

Dude is being a straight a$$hole. Error prone tasks should be automated. People like him want to keep shyt manual for job security, make it seem like only they have the ability to do certain tasks.

The company was a smaller company, so it's possible he has never been exposed to a tool of that nature. But I'm still kind of mind blown, how dude basically called me a liar, because I didn't do something the same way he's accustomed to.

What are some IT roles that someone can make over $60k with no certs and experience?
You’re pretty much not getting hired without some type of experience. That being said you could probably learn programming and build a portfolio that gets you an entry level role that pays that.

Yea I've been trying to land a Business Analyst role but I keep getting the run around that I need experience and that I should look at junior roles but I don't really see a lot of those types of roles advertised

What type of programming would you recommend?

Unless you know someone, it will be impossible. Even that person has to be able to validate why you belong to your peers. Certs can help open the door for you. Then after that sky is the limit if you are willing to grind and learn.

You right bro. I’m gonna look into some certs. I’ve been eyeing the CSM cert for the longest but never pulled the trigger

That depends on what you want to do. Web dev(front end + back end) will always be in demand
