i dont even blink at those job postings

senior roles should start at $150k per year minimum

what a joke

I tend to not pay attention to job postings in general. They're usually written poorly , ratle off too many requirement and dont convey the true scope of the job.

I post up my resume and let them come to me 90% of the time and passively search 10% the time.

I interview comapanies more than they interview me nowadays, because I'm not trying to have my time wasted.

I'm shooting for $150K cloud / virtualization role around 3rd Qtr of next year just as a personal goal. If I fall a few stacks short, I'm not even tripping, as long as I get the role at that level of pay and responsibility.

If I can set up this two job scenario, I'll surpass that anyway; I'm just trying to stack money and get as much hands-on experience in a condensed period as possible, so I can level up 3-fold by next year.

This is absolutely doable and it sounds like you got a process for filtering out BS.

You open to contracting? Because honestly you'll hit that easy looking at contract roles. Also connecting with the right recruiters help too.

Contracts Are what I prefer
I've actually turned down direct hire roles...I dont fall for that "job security" bullshyt, it's a myth IMHO, I'm all about skill security.
I see myself as a mercenary. I take my skills with me and only for the highest bidder

I love bouncing to a different environment every 6 - 12 months. I know how to swing this shyt to my advantage

Exactly, it's contracting for me for the next foreseeable future.

I work for a major company everyone here has heard of and I've seen countless people get made redundant and forced into early retirement since I started a year ago.

The whole job for life thing doesn't exist anymore. It's all about stacking more bread and financial security at this point.

He was all jovial and high energy, til I shut that shyt down and his whole demeanor switched up instantly:demonic:

Nikka got huffy and hung up in my face :picard:

Right, It keeps you on the grind and a fire lit under that ass.

My current job, they tried to offer me $8K less for direct hire with bonuses (not guaranteed) Vs the full salary, no bonuses and only a 12 month contract. I asked for all of my chips up front and TBH I saw it as a finessee move because the recruiter seemed stuck when I chose the latter. Also, again, too many variables that could effect my employment status, I'd rather get all my money and dip in a year versus sticking around and trying to climb the corporate ladder and getting shytty raises every 2 years . Plus, I'd inevitably hit a ceiling dealing with these punk ass architects and service managers, Just fukkin no. fukk all that

I'll write my own ticket, i'll blaze my own path, the perceived comfort and security of direct-hire , full-time employment is illusory at best

I'm just here to get paid, skill up and bounce,

finance roles are crazy though

i remember getting an email about working at a hedge fund in NYC as a DEVOPS/SRE

starting pay was $250kyr, I didn't past the initial interviews but those fukkers have bag to pay

they seem to throw money around more freely than other companies but i'd imagine being in finance it is boring and dry as fukk

shyt that's what's up, Didnt know it was possible to surpass $200K from 1 job. Definitly aiming for that.

I've had two finance jobs so far, yeah they are more generous with the money, It's just the mentality is more toxic than your usual environment. after a while it gets tiresome but yeah. prolly just need to recharge

also it seems like all the devops/SRE/Cloud Engineer/Linux type roles are in the northeast espcially in the DMV area

I'm trying to knock down a Linux Admin role for my 2nd job but most of them want a security clearance and the Sec+, government contract type shyt.

all this talk about RHCSA being one of the most in demand certs to have but I havent experience that yet.

Linkedin - I get hit up heavily from recruiters and talent acquisition manager, Most of my feedback is coming from here

Indeed / Simply Hired - They dont update there database enough, almost never any new jobs and trying to go granular with refined search only yields more irrelevant and outdated postings. However I did find my current job on Indeed. I applied the same minute it was posted.

Career Builder- Utter trash of a website, they dont even try to have a competent search engine, but I keep my eyes peeled just in case some poor soul is actually posting somethng worthwhile on there.

Flex Jobs- Looking to work remote indefinitely, so this is a site i'm really active on, It's a paid service, but they have alot of exclusive postings

Dice- Mostly Quantity over quality in terms of the prospects I get but law of probability dictates that something will eventually stick. most of the bullshyt recruiters calling me come from Dice.

GlassDoor
Zip Recruiter
TheLadders- Another paid service with exclusive postings but their userb community seems dead, I get no feedback for my resume but the type of jobs and their salary is the majjor drawing point for me
Google Search
Linux Careers- Extremely fukking dead, pathetic actually

Most of these companies and agencies are mostly interested in my VMware/VDI experience
So, i'm trying to leverage that to get into a Cloud/DevOps type of role
