Hmm, what resources are you using?

I used the Darril Gibson security book (with extensive note taking) and TestOut.
I didn’t get to finish the TestOut Course, only went through 7/9 modules and skipped most of the labs, but I felt if I had taken my time and finished I could’ve passed my Security+ test wayyyyy earlier, perhaps without even reading the book. It’s pricey (I forgot to cancel the free trial :snoop:) but I thought it was worth it.

As far as the test today, I skipped all the labs then came back to them with 30 mins left in the test. Helped with time management.

good luck!!

Started off with ITPro's accelerated course then moved on to the CBTNuggets course w/ Keith Barker. After I finished the video course I bought and read Gibson's book a few times. Also copped Professor Messer and Jason Dion's practice quizzes.

I plan on reading the book one more time this weekend, but just the remember me sections and the chapter summaries. I'm gonna do flashcards every day till I take the quiz.

Thanks, man! Hope to come back here with some great news next week.

Don't over think it, go over the domains and make sure you know what they are, what they are for and when and how to use. Along with knowing all of your acronyms you'll get some free points just by knowing them. Take as many practice test as you can and don't second guest yourself. You did more than enough (3 different sources of materials) to pass the test. I thought I was going to fail when I took the test too, it just test taking anxiety I could've done better but rushed my way through it had 30 minutes to spare.

So, take your time and understand what the questions are asking, if you know your material you can safely determine which answers are bullshyt or don't even have anything to do with the topic.

Good Luck

Usually this means 3 or 4 experienced technical people just quit. And there trying to fill all these positions with one person. Because that's all upper management approved.

I had a phone interview for a company looking for something similar. And laughed the recruiter off the phone and told him good luck. Even if you find someone desperate enough to take this sweat shop job. They'll quit the moment they find something better.

bash>>>PowerShell

This.

I picked up on powershell pretty quickly due to my prior experience with BASH.

There are some similarities but it's not even close, BASH is more versatile, and intuitive.

shyt you can run PS in Bash

No lies were told here.. if you're in a mostly/full windows environment, they yeah powershell is a no brainer...

If you're in a linux env, for simple non complex shyt you need to get done quickly bash>>python>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>powershell

Opening up vim, dumping 5 lines of code into a file, chmod +x and crontab -e all in under 5 mins>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>fukking with powershell and windows task scheduler

On different note.. I see a lot of posts asking about hardware for a homelab for practice for people who can't and/or dont feel like fukking with free tier cloud environments, these little boxes can get you started for cheap:

optiplex micro | eBay

for $200 and little bit of time you setup most infrastructure/OS labs, and for an extra $100 you can get 32GB of ram and larger ssd., they're tiny with a small power envelope.

Everyone at my job is jumping ship :damn:. Every week, we hear someone moving on elsewhere They may sell our business operations or just stop contract renewals completely which will steadily reduce the workload. Hitting the books heavy again :damn:. The good thing dudes that have left are finding jobs during the pandemic so that's a good sign and I see plenty cyber sec jobs out there.

lol

2nd week at my new job,

At my previous contract, I was the only person still there from the beginning, in the year that I was there we've had 8 people leave for better jobs and with good reason

  1. takes months upon months sitting on your hands to get access and rights to do your damn job, Not a singular experience, every single contractor including myself went through this.
  2. When we finally got said access, the bum ass niccas from other depts would just recklessly kick'em to us regardless if it was some shyt we did or not, 80% of the time the latter.
  3. So Called Virtualiztion SME was an insecure hothead who was suppose to Host Webex training calls, but just decided he wasnt going to train us, and no-show 98% of meetings. Also the same bump trying to push patches during production hours b
  4. bytch made Service Delivery Managers cared more about us assigning tickets to the right dept moreso than resolving issues and request. Basically my last 3 months there was ticket shuffling instead of doing real SysAdmin work
The threes nikka I started with quit without notice, So I was saddled with all of their tickets plus my own. I was knocking down 171 tickets a month on average, I had to train new hires, write SOPs, and through self-study I became so good at VMware that I was THAT nikka. Everybody came to me for any issues they had with VDI. Because I was so good at my job and approachable, I ended up building a rapport with different departments which made triaging with infosec, NOC, Compute Teams, Helpdesk and VPs and managers a breeze. I was steadily getting put on employee of the month boards and I know the bytch made managers at the client foaming at the mouth to cancel our contract was hating that. I was single handedly keeping nikkas jobs safe without even realizing it. Some of the newer contractors had the gall to try and throw me under the bus when they start getting hymed up for not pulling their weight, claiming I didnt trian them when I literally hold webex meetings and shower them with every SOP and bookmark I had. bytch ass nikkas still got the axe though.

Muthafukas could not touch me or say shyt bad about me because I was too clutch lol. That whole experience made me a better professional and showed me that I have leadership skills to rub elbows with even the executive types.

SO when I finally got that offer for $85,000 / year for my current contract and put in my 2 week's notice, them manger's were sick as fukk; I wasnt one of, I was the ONLY one getting shyt done on my team, and because nobody else was reliable.....shyt's Creek lol.

fukk it though, Im eating now, still stacking certs and learning on my own dime so I can be prepared for my next gig when this one expires. Man, I love this IT shyt

:blessed:
