On chapter 8 of 12 in Ben Piper's AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner book. We're gonna do this!!!

Sidenote: I underestimated how vast AWS is. There's so many services and the level of granularity is mind-blowing.

From the books I've been reading, it's mostly knowing Cisco iOS through and through, knowing switching (VLANS, STP , RSTP+ , etc) and routing (OSPF, FHRP, HSRP, etc) and the basic network fundamentals. They also threw in some security and automation . I'm on the security (Access lists) portion then I finish with the automation portion .

After I'm gonna take 2 practice tests, buy Boson Simulator, and buy some PacketTracer or GNS3 labs. Then im taking it quicc af while its still fresh in my head.

Brehs im in a lil dilemma .
I've been at my current job for a lil over 3 years now. Since I've started , I've gotten a $5 raise. It's a small family owned retail store. I do Inventory and IT ... but the hands on IT experience I get on the day to day is negligible. I be happy when the printer not working or somebody not's connecting to the Internet. This shyt is like elementary school IT work .

I've been studying for CCNA , tryna get that by all means. But my current job is tryna keep me forever and even want to promote me to Purchasing Manager when my supervisor retires this year or next. Should I just put in my 5 years here and claim I was doing only IT work? Or should I get a REAL IT job?

Would yall remain comfy in this position, getting little to no on the job experience , just for a nice paycheck? Or would yall jump shyt and start looking for jobs more hands on , once I get the CCNA?

Get a real job in industry if thats what you want to do. Get complacent and you'll find it way tougher to get where you're trying go go down the line. If anything, you can take the Purchasing Manager role and parlay that into an IT Management Position later down the line.

breh im basically the it management/ director/ whatever already. they (average age of 60 yr old cacs) refer to me with anything it related. purchasing new equipment, running cables, setting up voip phones and transitioning us to cloud saas , printer problems, everything.

either way , imma get laughed at by the next job when they see how basic shyt the "head of IT" was doing for 5 years . crazy that i gotta study and lab cuz i cant get real world experience

i think imma say fucc it and drive the 80+ miles to austin or dallas for a real IT job, just gonna have to be nights and weekends cuz im not quitting this easy one just yet .

Im going through the same thing

for me I have the mindset of mastering the material as if I’m studying for a job and then when that’s mastered then I’ll practice the test

So if I go into a job interview knowing I can somewhat build my own network from scratch in my head then I’ll feel more confident
