@PartyHeart

Atlanta does not have the same type of nikkas as Being Mary Jane, Insecure or Scandal.

And I am not interested in message based shows...I hate the Cosby Show because it isn't real for majority of Black people. I am not one of these nikkas clamoring to see Black people super successful and having a wonderful fukking life because that's far from real life. Earn having a baby momma isn't a bad thing. It's real life. nikkas fukk around and have kids.

Atlanta shows a certain class of Black males and these are typical experiences for a certain class of people.

And I ain't one of these nikkas that be like "Black women is our women,"

I really don't give a fukk what Black women do as long they leave Black males out of it.

Issa Rae legit created a show centered around her inability to find a man...and her awkwardness...and on some video game shyt, had a White man as the endgame.

Atlanta is show about young Black males trying to make something of their lives.

It's too totally different shows with different levels of humanity for the characters in it.

Just like in Being Mary Jane...the only character that has any sense of humanity and is not a cardboard cut-out of a stereotype is Issa Rae, the main character.

Everybody else she deals with is a straight up stereotype of Black men out Lip Stick Alley.

Motherfukkers comparing 2 differrent types of shows and think they have an equal level in writing.

on an objective level

On an objective level so does Insecure. And so does every portrayal of black people on TV if you want to stretch it to this abstract conception of "objective".

If you're just mad about not having a black female created tv show and "perspective" then just say so.

Ironically people like you and Matt would be mad if a black male made a show full of stereotypical black women and would say it's "black women bashing".

This is a black female created show. You guys are the ones complaining about it, not me. I just think its ridiculous you've chosen to hold up Atlanta as the better show when complaining about the showing black male stereotypes.

Earlier in the thread you even had people talking about Issa Rae being one of those black people who fits in well with white people and likes white activities when that is literally Donald Glover's whole schtick. Its what he raps about, its his standup routine. Its just okay to you guys and becomes a "layered" experience when the voice behind the story is a black male.

How does Survivor's Remorse fit that bill?

How doesn't it?

The character of Reggie is a successful, intelligent, and driven black man who manages his cousins career (to great effect) and is married to a successful, ambitious black woman. They actually discuss their issues and problems and he takes her advice and suggestions seriously.

The character of Cam is in a relationship with a black woman, a black woman that he loves and respects, even to the point where he tells her about possibly having an STD even though he fears she may leave him. He doesn't cheat on her, abuse her, or treat her like an accessory. She's not a video model or Instagram thot, she's...surprise surprise...an intelligent black woman who has her own career and goals.

Have you ever thought its possible, perhaps even likely, that you can't see the levels of humanity when the human in question is a Black woman?

Because sorry, the stereotyping of Black men on Atlanta is far worse than it is on Insecure. You can make whatever points you need to about it being "layered" and "nuanced" to make it easier to swallow, but on an objective level Atlanta checks the Black male stereotype list to an insane degree. Yet you have no problem with it. Even more troubling than the stereotyping in my opinion, is the invisibility/nonexistence of the opposite sex and that also is so pronounced on Atlanta its damn near funny how often this happens on Black male created shows now. It was also an issue on the Boondocks, but I see in your other post thats a favorite of yours as well :mjlol:

Uh...I made it pretty clear that the lead Black woman on Black woman created shows has humanity...it's just everyone else does not and they are cardboard cutout stereotypes. Being Mary Jane had a straight up tragic mulatto character that was crazy as fukk, attempting suicide, got molested as a child, was jealous of Mary Jane and off'ed herself while Mary Jane is a Sapphire/Jezebel character...but fleshed out.

And I made it clear....every media creation is a stereotype...is a trope. You not gonna escape it. Everything has been commodified and done before. But you can add humanity to it. You can give a character motivations, a philosophy...a life.

Issa Rae and other Black female creators do not do that for anybody but the lead character. Their portrayal of Black women is already problematic because they are downright dysfunctional as human beings first of all...especially Mary Jane....but then all the men are stereotypical cardboard characters.

I rather Black men not be in the shows if every Black dude is gonna be a cardboard stereotype.

I am not into representation politics, I rather the show be done right and be a good show instead of having cardboard characters for the lead character to engage with.

when complaining about the showing black male stereotypes.

It's the effectiveness of those "stereotypes" and how you lay them down, not just them existing alone.

Trust me, if Atlanta was a c00n show no one would be fukking with it, especially if it's coming from someone like Donald Glover who people perceive as not being aware of his blackness.

And the funny shyt is...

Being Mary Jane...the main character...Mary Jane stole fukking sperm of a Black man and was planning on getting herself pregnant with it.

Mary Jane has a lightskin man preference...

Just think of the levels of fukkery Black women support and the show was created by Black woman...

Now let that be the reverse and have a Black man create a show where the lead character slips a chick a Plan B and he only dates lightskin women...

They would call for the cancellation of the show.
