From the other perspective I think Jews are punching down on their own people because they need to feel some kind of power after they were nearly eradicated.

It's like when you see a black kid bully another black kid at a majority non-black school. Especially if that kid being bullied is a nerd or something. It's like second-hand embarrassment because note the bully will never attack one of the non-black kids, only their own. Again, it's punching downward at an easy target and those other kids will let them do it to keep the attention off of you being next.

There may be some shame in there as well because their Middle Eastern counterparts have such a bad rep in the West so it's a way for them to "separate" themselves from them.

It's a weak mentality trying to show strength and doing more damage to themselves in the long run.

Then throw in the complication of religion as well (which honestly may not even be as much of a factor as the previous statements really).
